I bought mi Fishman Mini when it came to the market, had 40-50 gigs over years but it's still in good shape (no major cosmetic changes). Maybe I was just lucky....

So let me get this straight. I send the Mini back, for the weight it will cost me about $40. They charge me another $50 US which is $70 CAN for me. Return shipping probably another $40. Now my cost totals $140 and I have the same crap covering as before. If enough guys are dumb enough to to that, some MBA at Fishman is going to get a great year end bonus.
Sorry, "Homey don't play that game". Henk |

The problem is that the product used on the Fishman amps is not Tolex. Tolex is a trademarked item and cheap vinyl - even if it looks like Tolex - is only Tolex if original Tolex is used. Tolex doesn't fall apart or deteriorate like this. No where in Fishman's literature does it say that Tolex is used. Purchasing Tolex and replacing the cheap covering that comes on the amp is certainly what I would do.

Surely fishman would select a decent material. Using a self-disintegrating material for cover begs the question what else did they scrimp on?

These amps are classy! Both look amazing. Does the black one with lighter stain have custom grill cloth? How did you do the black faceplate?

I won't repeat the pics, AGAIN, but that stripped one does look great !
I've got an Artist that is still in original condition, but I've also got the crappy "protective" cover they sell for a ludicrous amount to willing victims like me. It seems to be made of the same stuff as the better quality supermarket bags. Also, I've never actually taken it out the house yet. Absolutely brilliant amp tho' ! I got mine at a nice price during last year's BF sales. |

Just got my Artist too! I only gig once a month with it. The natural wood cabs pictured are really beautiful. Personally, I'm not concerned about the vinyl on my amp. In my world (past world), of great tube amps, these are quite inexpensive, and the sound is all I care about. I will say my Matchless Chieftain head has been gigged for 20 years, rolled completely over in my car, been in countless dives, and looks new. Top notch materials, but I paid for it. I tend not to beat up my gear too badly though. Again, LOVE those natural cabs!

Dave,
Those refurbished amps look great! Question: Is that the original wood that was under the covering or did you build new cabs? They really do look good. _Roger |
