Seems like a good idea. I have some and will try it the next time I need to drop fill something.

Steve, I wonder if first sealing the bare wood with shellac before applying the CA glue might prevent the discolouration of CA glue on bare wood.

You are 100 percent correct.

When i originally did this repair, i actually thought it had not broken into the wood, i was wrong, the superglue stained and exasperated the "bruised" wood.

If you want to try drop filling you should try using gluboost products. Excellent results. They have YouTube videos. Practice on scrap wood several times first.

Seems to be a lot of talk of filling bruised wood. Did I miss that? How deep is this scratch? Can we get a picture? Would help advise. I've had good luck steaming out dents on the front of a guitar, but if it's not all the way through the finish I'd be leaving it alone

Hi Ralph, it's a ding through the finish on the back of the guitar, with an accompanying one inch scratch ... not huge, but the guitar was in pristine condition before this... I just wanted to try to cover it up or fix it. I'm not a charter member, so I can't upload a picture... I could email you, if you want to send me a personal message, it's up to you.

Also wondering, if I fill the small dent with super glue, is that going to be an issue with the wood expanding and contracting with humidity changes?

use gluboost flexible CA and accelerator

Warning : it is a specific technique to finish it and unless you are good at it you will make it significantly worse. Thats the way ALL finishing jobs are.

Things to note, if damage is into the wood surface, superglue will stain light coloured woods somewhat, it will look like a bruise after being finished, superglue repair will be typically visible afterwards but not in your face

Steve

I would be interested in seeing your process Steve. Can you message me the link as well please?

My Guild D-30 was pristine for years, the my 4 year old niece fell on it while bouncing around, knocked it off the stand and put to very large dent scratches in the top. She is now a senior in college. I look at those dents now and it makes me smile.
