Default Strings

My Taylor NS-34CE came with D'Addario Pro-Arte High Tension strings. A friend of mine highly recommends Savarez 520P1 strings for the character of the trebles. He also said the Savarez strings last longer and don't stretch as much.

I'm sure I will go through several types and brands before I settle on one.

What do any of you think of Savarez v. D'Addario or other strings and why?

The difference between Savarez vs D'Addario on my guitar is HUGE. I've tried many packs of different D'Addario strings and have come to the conclusion that they just can't compete against Savarez the brilliance can be heard from treble to bass. I use Savarez 520R's strictly on my Lapatrie Hybrid. I recommend you try the 520Rs yourself and see if they make a difference.

You cannot go wrong with either Savarez or the Oasis (yes the same folks that make the humidifers), strings. The Oasis are a great bargin, nice soft feel, and sound great!

My instructor uses Savarez 520P1 so I am going to try a set of them first then will try others. He agrees strings are individual preference and I should try a lot of them before settling on one.

Thanks for the input.

Horses for courses as the English say; I find Savarez strings a bit "breaky", especially the trebles. I broke a Savarez high E four times on stringing up (until it was too short to mount), so I don't buy them any more. And "Strings and Beyond" wouldn't even replace the dam string! So I don't buy from them anymore.
Oasis strings are decent but harsh-sounding. On the suggestion of a friend I've been using Aquila strings most recently. They have a beautiful classical sound.

I've used Savarez off and on for 35 years, but have always been looking for other strings. Lately, I've been using the ones with the Corum Crystal trebles. I've liked the Augustine Blue Imperials, and Hannabach with carbon trebles, don't remember the number. As to D'Addario, I've tried their composite strings and liked them more than their regular ones. I have a bunch of other sets to try, including Oasis and some lesser known European strings, but have been playing steel string almost exclusively since joining a folk society about two years ago.
Anyhow, IMO, you can't go wrong with Savarez.

I have a Lahambra 6P that also came with D'Addario Pro-Arte High Tension strings. I found that they did not respond equally across the range of the guitar. The G string sounded rather dull also. Tried several different brands and types and was begining to think it might be the guitar. Then I tried LaBella 900 Golden Superiors and my problems disappeared. I guess strings are like ice cream, you have to find a flavor that you and your guitar likes.

I like Savarez & Hannabach best but D'Addario Pro-Arte High Tension will do when I don't want to spend the money on shipping. (local stores don't have the others)

I LOVE Savarez Brand. My Cordoba C5 came with them stock, and I used them on my Ibanez EW Koa when I had that.

I also just purchased a set of strings from LaBella Professional Series 413 P, I haven't put them on yet, but I'm excited to see how they compare, they are a couple dollars more than the Savarez brand (not sure what the difference between Red and Blue pack is, but I use Red).

Anyone have experience with the La Bella Pro series??
