Ralph Bown Guitars
String changing day, and with nice light coming through my window I thought I'd post some photos. First up is a concert sized Bown guitar in Brazilian and Sitka, based on a Larson brothers Stahl style 6. Ralph built this one last year.
This one dates from 1999 and is Ralph's six string take on the Stella guitar played by Barbeque Bob; in Indian Rosewood and Sitka. Next up in size is a Bown OM from 2015 in Koa and Sitka. Finally, here's a Bown SJ from 2011 in Cuban Mahogany and Sitka. This one was originally built for Clive Carroll, and I've been lucky enough to be it's keeper twice. Not particularly unusual in the fevered world of Bown fanatics.. |

Fabulous. Thanks for sharing these with us.
I've only played a couple of Ralph's guitars. Both were as fine as guitars get.

That's quite a collection, man!
I hope you wear a bib when you play them. Drool on varnish, not good. |

Great babble of Bowns! (Not sure what the collective noun is.)
Ralph's fit and finish is world class and they sound better than they look! I've recorded on a few recently, they're up on YouTube (if Mark is happy for me to post one on here, I can do that later). Jonny Last edited by jonnymosco; 02-26-2021 at 02:14 AM. |
