I miss the dots
I recently got a new guitar, a Kremona Orpheus Valley classical. It's the first guitar I've had that didn't at least have the little dots along the edge of the neck at the fifth, seventh and ninth frets. I didn't realize how much I depended on those until they were gone. It's generally not a problem unless I'm making a big leap up the neck, when I have to think twice about where to land. It can be a little distracting.
Anyone else have experience with this? |

I wonder why anyone would make a guitar without the dots in the first place? |

Classicals traditionally have no dots. Personally, I get completely lost so I need a dot at the 7th. Whats funny is now I go back to my steel strings and all the dots totally throw me off LOL.

There is a dot on the 7th fret of my Cervantes. I have to admit...it took a little getting used to. Most times I can find the right note, even with my eyes closed, but I must admit that I do like more dots for reference.
Thanks for this thread and also to Silverfox for the link to Rosette Guitar Products. I ordered up a set of dots! Darryl

I pur a small, unobtrusive, bone dot at 7 on all my guitars, unless someone says don't do it. I'll also put them anywhere else someone wants. It takes very little time and effort.

I had the same problem. I went through a phase in which I kept telling myself to just "suck it up" and get used to it.
After playing quite a few gigs in which I made several small shifting errors, I finally took a white paint pen that was borrowed from some ladies in a kitchen at the venue where my gig was. I put dots at 5, 7, and (I think) 9. You'd have to look very closely to see that they aren't professionally done, were completely FREE and took maybe 1 min to do and another 5 to dry thoroughly. I couldn't be happier with them. I haven't been missing shifts since then. I'm not too proud to admit it.

For a traditional classical, you really only need the 7th. You know it tops out at the 12th so you can divide from there and get to the 4th and 10th. This concept helped me a lot.
But yea I gave up on feeling embarrassed about my dot lol. Its far less embarrassing than hitting the 8th when you meant the 7th.

I ordered "Black/Ivory Fret Dots...basically a white dot inside of a black ring. I'll try to post photos after I receive and install the dots.

I SECOND the motion for the CORRECTION FLUID...it rubs off when I wipe down the guitar after playing, but usually lasts a few weeks.
If you decided you don't like it, or want it off, easy to remove and no permanent marks.
