Default Anyone Else Hate Elixir Strings???

I just do not like the way they feel. I like guitar strings that feel like guitar strings none of the polyweb coating. The only reason I still have them on my Taylor is because they came new on it, so once they wear out it's bye bye bye elixir and hello D'addario or Cleartones.

I won't say I hate them, but I sure can't use them. It's a good idea, and works great for some, but my body chemistry and nano-coating don't mix! I have that coating hanging off in tatters within two hours of playing. Looks like fuzz growing on my strings!

Ok maybe I was a little harsh. I don't mind the way they sound I just don't like the coating. I have the same problem with it rubbing off.

Cool

I used to dislike them a lot. Until I started playing Taylors, and until I started playing chord shapes up and down the neck.

I put some on a Martin I owned a while ago, and to my ears, they sounded really bad. OTOH, somehow they seem to go with Taylors- to me, they just seem to work well with the way Taylors are voiced, at least to my ears. I like the clarity and sparkle that I hear.

I also have come to like the lack of squeaks and squeals as I'm sliding my hand up and down the neck with chord changes. Uncoated strings now sound very noisy and squeaky to me.

Of course, YMMV. And if you hate them, you are not alone, that's for sure.

I strongly dislike the polywebs - the sound is fine, but they are way too plasticky and slippery for my tastes.

The nanowebs are great strings though, and I've recently converted to them for both my electric and acoustic guitars. They feel like normal strings, but a tiny bit slipperier, which works great for me. My hands don't sweat at all as well, so a single set can last me for 3-4 months before starting to sound dead.

No-don't hate them- just found some less expensive coated strings I now use instead (Martin SP+ and Markley Alchemy gold PB). Agree that the Polyweb coating is a little too thick & plasticy feeling, as well as the way they "fuzz" off, which is not good either IMO. Nanowebs are better suited to me.

Thumbs down Elixirs - thumbs down

Completely agree with the initial post, can't stand 'em! The only thing I think they serve a purpose for is to keep a fresh sound at stores, but I think they color the true sound of guitars at stores (and then there is the argument that stores should keep fresh strings on all their inventory, especially the high end acoustics, but that's a whole 'nother post!). Neven been a fan of Taylor switching to Exlixirs, and the first thing I do when I bring a new Taylor home is change the strings! My $0.02

I don't like Elixir's. I've never tried any coated strings I like. Hate's kinda strong though. I understand using coated strings on factory guitars hanging in stores though.

I hate them with the fire of a thousand suns.

Real guitarists use EJ-17s.

Hate them! Why not string your guitar with fiber- optics. Sound too much like glass to me. Especially Phospher-Bronze.

I'd feel better if we all hated Elixir's.

It depends on the guitar, for me. I have guitars where Elixir's are just okay.
I also have guitars that absolutely sound the best with Nano PB's, and nothing
else even comes close.

Though some folks may want the entire world to hate Elixirs....it ain't gonna happen.
