Default Gibson SJ-200 owners and fans, please help me with a first-world problem

Vintage sunburst or antique natural?

Began my quest thinking that VS is the "definitive" SJ-200 rendition.

But, I already own some sunburst Gibbies and have no "blondes" in my herd . . .

The AN ones are really catching my eye, all of a sudden (and they are slightly less expensive).

Comments and catcalls welcome. Thank you!

I prefer the Antique Natural finish on that model guitar myself.

All of my acoustics are natural wood finish. And my J200 is not "blonde" any more, but 'naturally torrified' spruce with rosewood back and sides.

The original SJ200 was (sun)burst, with rosewood b/s. Designed by and made for Ray Whitley.
That guitar is in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Whitley co-wrote "Back in the Saddle Again" with Gene Autry.

I've always preferred the natural finish on a J200 over the burst, and I'm a huge nurse fan in general.

I would love to be in the market for a J200. I'd head to Wildwood and play every one of the 3 dozen they have in stock.

If you do that I would suggest the answer will present itself

Personally, while I prefer the J45 burst over the natural J50, in a J200 I like both finishes equally

When I owned one, it was a sunburst. I chose it because I preferred the tone, compared to the natural one also available. I think both are very attractive. As it turned out, the looks was the thing about the SJ-200 that I ended up liking best and wasn't enough for me to hang onto it.

A huge fan of nurses? Okay, you’ve got a lot of company there.

The only choice for me would be sunburst, all things being equal, which they never are.

I had a 1990 J200 Natural for several years, if I had to choose again, I'd go for an older sunburst.

I like how Gibson does a sunburst finish to the extent that my remaining Gibsons are all finished that way

I'm giving this one at Wildwood some serious consideration.

I just picked up a 2018 brand new in store (old stock road show guitar) for a great price. Wondering what your experience has been with yours after a couple of years?

I did end up buying a SJ-200 and I went for Vintage Sunburst.

Yep, that's a real beauty, Bruce. Gibson consistently does the burst just right, unlike the not-quite-right burst on my SJ comparable jumbo Guild F50R produced in New Hartford. Guild did hit it right on my jumbo 12er JF30-12 properly bursted in Corona, California....
