Default Charmed Life Pick Review

I was the lucky winner of a CLP in one of Scott's giveaways and am really glad Ive gotten a chance to try one. Thank you Scott! I received a "blem" nf75ss. I still can't tell where the blem is, it looks perfect.

But more importantly, the pick sounds amazing, glides off the strings and stays on your fingers! I was and am a skeptic in every way, and I thought anyone who would pay $30-35 for a pick is freaking crazy. But I don't know, there is something really different/special about this pick. I went back and forth with this and a Primetone, and the Primetone sounds good but CLP sounds special....clarity without being harsh, and girth without being muddy.

As a recently retired grade-school music teacher (27 years) I can't be having a large stock of these wonderful picks lying around, so I'm going to be taking good care of this baby.

Thank you again Scott and Rhonda Memmer!

Scott's a real good dude but it's also important to remember he's a long time player. I think that perspective is really important in making guitar picks. Charmed Life doesn't just punch them out, they craft them like they would for their own playing.

So true and quite literally, they are individually made! I have a handful that I treasure and love the sound I get using them! thanks Scott!

I was in that camp too, until it occurred to me; Im playing a four-figure guitar with $18 strings, but gripe about paying more than 50 cents for a pick! Out of lock-down boredom (some would say psychosis) I went on a pick bender and tried bluechips, EML, CLP, etc...

Scott and Rhonda win for their caesin picks and customer service! Also great folks at alpha picks and V-picks.

Joe, thanks for your post and review and glad to see you're enjoying it. Thin casein picks are pretty amazing.

If I can get my head above water, I plan on doing a John Prine Trivia Contestd by the end of May. Stay tuned, everybody.

Thanks again, Joe.

Scott

I have Charmed Life picks in casein, vespel (brown), blonde, and black. I don't like ONLY CLP, but I like them a lot. For really thick casein triangles, around 1.5mm, I like Red Bear equally well and sometimes a bit better. But down around 1.00 or so, I like them both equally and I like the feel of Scott's picks a bit more. With Vespel over 1.0mm, I'm basically agnostic - I like Scott's and Blue Chips pretty much equally.

But my latest pick buying experimentation went to thinner picks out of a desire to find a balance point between the volume of my voice and guitar when I'm recording both with one mic. Mic placement matters, as does lightening up the right hand, but I was still somewhat too loud with my thicker picks I tried some of the cheaper plastic triangles in .73 and .88 and they worked for volume but they just didn't sound very good.

Scott's the only game in town for these skinnier picks in vespel and on the blonde material in any thickness. So I tried a .75 vespel, a .75 blonde, and a .9 blonde. And, man, those .75mm picks were just what he doctor ordered - gets my volume down where I need it and still sound really good. And there's enough tonal difference between the vespel and the blonde picks that it's well worth having both, so I'm glad he offers these pick in such light weights. I'm intrigued by casein in .75, but I'm pretty into large triangles these days and I'm not sure I want to get a teardrop casein in .75. But if he ever starts making a casein triangles in .75 (hint, hint), I'll no doubt try one. I'm sure they're pretty breakable with that thin a pick and that large an area, but I'd be willing to give one a try!

Yep, Scott is a real stand-up guy and CL casein teardrops in 1.15 and 1.25 are my absolute favorites. Nothing pulls tone out of a guitar better.

I bought three Casein CL picks from a fellow AGF member and love them. My son claimed one for his mandolin and is equally thrilled.

We like them so much, I ordered two more from Charmed Life
