1000% return it. You shouldn’t be dealing with this sort of nonsense this early into ownership. Absolutely unacceptable.

One more info:
Mortise & Tenon Neck Joint Does this explain the glue and the gap? Also the MF rep said this guitar was directly from the Martin factory. So is it then a Martin quality issue? |

I think it's funny all the people saying that it couldn't have come from Martin like this. Sure it could have. Everybody has a bad day once in a while and Martin isn't infallible to QC issues (see binding detachment and very early neck resets).

+1 on this. My local shop told me they received two guitars within the last 6 months from Martin, 1 HD-28 and 1 DSS-17, that had to be sent back to Martin because they needed neck resets out of the box.

In addition, neck angle and reset issues on relatively new Martins have come up here before. I also had some personal experience with this when I bought a 000-42 brand new in 2009. It needed a neck reset from the get-go; unfortunately, I was inexperienced in such matters at the time and thought that if the neck was straight, then the neck must be good. It was only some 6 months later that I twigged and then tried to push for a warranty reset. Martin refused and allowed me only a setup from my nearest Martin approved tech. He shaved the saddle down to a wafer and handed it back to me. Great.

It was my most expensive guitar mistake ever.

That is a terrible Martin warranty.
I'm still scratching my head if Martin uses glue (yellowish) for their M&T neck joints. Isn't glue unnecessary at that cap heel area? |

Martin honored their warranty and reset the neck on my ceo-7. The guitar was new on "clearance" from guitar center. I knew it needed a reset, but, it was a fantastic guitar even in the condition it was in.
I had it for a year and a half when I noticed the ubiquitous binding issue. They covered both under warranty and much quicker than I expected. If the guitar was being sold at full price I would've passed. If I bought it and noticed the neck was off within the return window, I would've returned it. |
