2013 Martin D-28 Authentic 1931 - sold
A nice slope shouldered 2013 Martin D-28 Authentic 1931 (that's a
mouthful!) for sale: $4,500.00. The former owner installed a K&K and used a 1/8th plug, so the hole for the end-pin has not been reamed out. Maurys lists these specifications for it: https://www.maurysmusic.com/martin_d...tic_1931_specs Here's some pictures... I looked it all over on the first string change, I saw this tiny flaw: Here's how the former owner placed the transducers on the bridge plate: Nice case... Boink!
Giant neck... Madagascar rosewood... twelve fret... slothead... I saw a couple of ladies play some really good songs on slotheads at an open mic, right before the late unpleasantness began... it occurred to me that The Slotheads would be a good acoustic band name ... I got some questions in a PM, I'd like to answer them here: 1. Any sign of the loose binding problems that seemed to start just after this guitar was made ? I just went and ran my fingers all around the binding on the top and the back. I think the binding everywhere seems as good as this picture looks (I think this picture looks great, herringbone was a must for me when I looked for a Martin): 2. Is the finish problem on the headstock a bubble, or a chip ? A chip is OK. I have a Taylor LKSM that started with a small finish bubble that turned into a massive peel after a few years. It was like that when I got here ... here's another, better, picture. Looks like it got bumped to me... 3. What is the action at the 12th fret ? I think this is a really cool guitar. Why would I sell it? I can't afford this rosewood guitar... So I tried this rosewood guitar... And this rosewood guitar... But I always play this guitar... So now I'm giving this Gibson flavored rosewood guitar a shot... maybe that will work... -Mike Last edited by Kerbie; 05-06-2021 at 10:52 AM. Reason: Added info from early bump; 24 hours, please. |

Thanks for answering all of my questions, Mike.
Great looking top, good action at the 12th, one ding of no consequence, and no binding problem. Also looks to have a good amount of saddle left. If I could only get myself to sell one of my current 12-fretters... I really like this demo of a D-28 A '31 by Carl Miner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eF8zHBsFDDs&t=2s Best of luck with the sale and enjoy that Kopp !

It was suggested that I show off the back with a better picture...
I inadvertently "cheated" on bumping by immediately posting the answers to some other questions, so I figured I'd wait a couple of days ... Madagascar rosewood... -Mike |

Monster guitar. I’ve never heard thicker trebles on a modern guitar. Good luck. This one is epic!

I've reduced my asking price to $4,500...
Martin bought an original one of these things from the collection of movie star Richard Gere and did their best to copy it down to the Nth degree, including taking it to the Smithsonian and using a cat scanner on it. It is touted as a copy of the first d-28, though when you read about it on the innernet the Martin company made some pretty much like this for the Ditson department store which melted down when the depression started. -Mike |

I follow Acoustic Cellars on the various social media platforms and saw that he had that unfortunate episode. How's he doing? I just bought a cabin in Clayton GA and plan to be making a lot of trips in there!

Price reduced again... $4,000... This is a gorgeous well made great
sounding guitar. Twelve fret, slope shouldered, slot headed, fat-necked beauty ... How's he doing? Patton seems in good spirits, he probably has a large supply of them built up... lots of good friends and a whole bunch more people like me who only know him a little bit, thinking and praying for him... -Mike |

I played one when they were first issued and was astounded. It was expensive and had a modified v neck which is not to my liking. Still, it had huge volume. This is very tempting.

I got a couple of saddle questions, and a fret question...
Another question: the ruler picture shows string height at 12th fret, a kind of a "benchmark" measurement... I played it some when I got it out for the saddle pictures. I guess it has been a month since I played it last. It was still in tune. I'm beginning to vacillate, but it is still for sale ... -Mike |
