And in my view it greatly increases the sustain of the instrument.

Here’s some shots of routing for binding and trimming the guitar.

Steve running the articulated arm machine.

Jig for routing the end wedge.

Giant end wedge installed.

Putting the purfling on around the top.

And on the back.

Ebony binding to frame the sides.

Fitting the miters before putting on another piece.

Thanks for watching.

Black ebony is the perfect frame for the artwork. Beautiful, beautiful guitar happening here.

Thanks for the nice comments! Here’s some more trim shots.

Cleaning up the binding getting ready for the maple purfling.

Bending the 1/16” super curly maple strip.

Tucking it in the channel left by the Teflon spacer.

Painting in glue.

Final top. (The maple curl doesn’t pop as much here as it will under finish.)

Thanks for following along.

Smile wood for guitar building....

I was at my college reunion over the past weekend. Was reminded that Vanderbilt's campus is a treasure trove of wood...albeit living wood! It's a designated National Arboretum with over 400 species of trees on campus - all labeled with species names and many of them are old and big. I started thinking of this in light of the recent wood acquisition by Steve and Ryan. Wow, a lot of beautiful trees....but, of course, not there for the picking...it turns out that when the trees do come down, Vanderbilt salvages the wood, mills it and stores it for future projects around campus as accent pieces, etc. Anyway, interesting fact … a little side topic on the thread!

Very cool Jeff. That sounds like a beautiful campus.

Here’s some pictures of peghead work.

Gluing on a white veneer that will be under the headplate.

Now the headplate lightly tacked on.

Marking the peghead shape.

Drilling the tuner holes.

Roughed in peghead shape.

More coming.

Continuing on the peghead theme...

Routing the peghead ledge.

Fitting the ebony binding.

Cutting the nut slot.

Ramping the string slots.

And a picture of the African Blackwood pyramid bridge just because I can.

Thanks for watching!
