The majority of my performing over the past three decades has been as a solo... voice and 6 or 12 string guitars...
I've rarely wanted to "play the hits" of popular bands or artists; I choose to "dig a little deeper" and find great songs by bands/artists that folks might not have heard or have forgotten about... Like ANYTHING by the Band, other than "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "The Weight" or "Up On Cripple Creek"... so I'll play "When You Awake", "All La Glory", "Ophelia", "The Shape I'm In"... like that. With the double courses on the 12 string, I can play two note lines that give more weight to certain tunes, like "The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys" for the bass line... I do a few Stevie Wonder tunes; both "I Believe (When I Fall In Love)" and "Another Star"... Van Morrison has about 50 records out, so anything except "Brown Eyed Girl" or "Gloria" would be good... same thing for Bob Dylan. Hard to find a Beatles' tune that hasn't been done to death, but there are some. Pretty much ANY Steely Dan tune, as they are rarely played by solo artists... I also play a lot of songs by more "obscure" artists, as well as original tunes, when they fit, but I ALWAYS play songs that I care about, that mean something to me, that I feel are important for people to remember... Doing that without "cramming" them down folks' throats or being overly "significant" is a challenging task, at times... but well worth the effort!

Thanks to you all. I just added at least an hour of new tunes to my 'favorites' playlist.

I think us aussies could have a field day on this thread as so many songs that were released down here in any period never made the light of day overseas.
Masters Apprentices were one of our biggest from the mid 60s to early 70s & this is probably their best known down here, particularly to those my vintage or older. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKE2hmgzUgo

I’m mostly into singing/playing classic ‘70s folk/rock (the cool stuff ),but I admit to liking to sing/play a bunch of melodic, kinda bubble-gummy simple tunes. Can’t say they’re not commonly heard though, but thought I’d share anyhow.
- Walk Away Renee - Left Banke - Sea Of Heartbreak - Don Gibson - My Maria - B.W. Stevenson - Dream Lover - Bobby Darin - Everything I Own - Bread - So Long Marianne - Bryan Hyland - Rhythm Of The Rain - Cascades - Under The Boardwalk - Drifters - Daydream Believer - Monkees - Drivin’ My Life Away - Eddie Rabbitt - Love Grows - Edison Lighthouse - So Nice To Be With You - Gallery - Put A little Love In Your Heart - Jackie Deshannon - Just One Look - Linda Ronstadt - Reflections Of My Life - Marmalade - Angel Of The Morning - Marilee Rush - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow - Shirelles - My Girl - Temptations - Love Is All Around - Troggs - A few by Sam Cooke - A few by Rick Nelson - A few by Herman’s Hermits

One of my absolute favorite recordings! "Old Cape Cod" and "Don't be Ashamed of Your Age" have been in my repertoire for several years now.

Speaking of Johnny Rivers, I dig his version of Mountain of Love. Bonus... unlike many pop crooners of that era, he could actually play some guitar!

Lately, I've been playing Celluloid Heros by the Kinks. I consider that a song "not commonly heard". I'm not sure what year that song came out, but it's been a long time.

Good one! I like "Come Dancing" too. There's a bit more to the Kinks than "You Really Got Me."

Embarrassed (almost) to admit this, but I've always dug this early bee gees tune! Tell me they don't look like marionettes in this video!
