I voted 'Yesterday' to answer the question, but 'I'm A Believer' and 'Paint It Black' (in particular The New Animals' superior version) are much better songs. As for 'Tin Soldier', that would probably be my personal favourite, especially having seen Steve Marriott perform the song a number of times at small club gigs in the 80s and early 90s. Safe to say that forty-odd years later, all the songs on the list have already endured way more than anything from the past 10 years is likely to do.

Fascinating! So you saw the final tour, after Peter Tork quit? That was an interesting tour; they hired an R&B band, Sam & The Goodtimers, to provide their backing.

My first thought after reading the thread title was "Penny Lane."

But, alas, it was not an option. "Yesterday" is close enough, though.

For me 'Penny Lane' is one of their less good numbers, but I think it would be the enthusiastic track choice for many more conventional British People.

In terms of worldwide appeal I thought of a tune that I could instantly hear in my head and 'Yesterday' was it.

My personal favourite Fab four song is ' A day in the Life' but it is not precisely clear what it's about, other than some kind of psychological dysfunction and collecting information on coal mines - it does'nt sound like it ends well.

I agree, I still have Be My Baby on one of my playlists for driving to and from work. Just a song that gets in you with the drum work and the voice of Ronni Spector

There's a bunch of tunes I like more (including a few on this list) but It's Yesterday.

I think it's already been recorded more than any song in history?

Still a pretty wonderful melody.

Had I been asked to guess what the results of the poll would be, my reply would have been that, Yesterday, would’ve gotten all the votes, that all the other choices would’ve gotten zero. So it is that I was surprised by the poll results, so much so that I did cursory research via Google and found that Paul McCarney’s dream-rendered song is almost invariably listed as the most covered one. It is reasonable that the best indicator of a song's longevity is the frequency with which it is covered decades after the song was released.

I’m dumbfounded that anyone would deem Neil Diamond’s, I’m a Believer, to be performed more often, much less be superior to, Yesterday.

I wouldn’t have expected the one Rolling Stone song on the list to have been a contender since, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, is generally credited as the most covered of that band’s songs.

I'm surprised that Diamond's 'I'm A Believer' did not get more votes. Granted Yesterday is a catchier melody, but I'm A Believer has a more sophisticated hook or Rythm or whatever. It's also more hopeful than any other song on the list.

One of the first songs I learned in our glee club in the 8th grade. Still a favorite today so many years later.

I voted for Yesterday, but if Good Vibrations had been on the list Id have picked that one.

Like above, when I read the thesis, before seeing the options, I immediately thought of White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. I’ll stick with that.

No brainer...Yesterday. Even though it wouldn't be on my top 20 Beatle songs, it's easily the best song on that list. IMHO, of course!

Some great songs mentioned in addition to the ones in the poll, but I think "Yesterday" still has them all beat in "enduringness".

Here's one that would be a worthy contender in that area:
