Default A/B Pedals - Recommendations Please

Hey all,
I've just become aware of A/B & A/B/Y pedals.

I have a Yamaha Stagepas 1K with 1 x vocal channel, and 1 x guitar channel at the moment for solo gigs, with a Yamaha MG10XU mixer waiting in the wings for duos etc in the future.

I'm looking to add a Baritone guitar to my collection later this year, and without filling the Stagepas up with cables, was wondering what peoples thoughts were on using an A/B or A/B/Y pedal for switching between guitars at will.

If they really are effective, what pedals should I be looking at?

Thanks in advance!

I might go for a preamp with an A/B switcher built in. I think Radial makes one that's kinda pricey but for your application that's the route I'd look into.
Tonebone PZ- Pre ($299)
Tonebone PZ-Pro ($499)
BTW, my band is using my Stagepas 1K this weekend in a hall that seats 400+ with my MG16XU mixer feeding almost all the channels. My electric guitar sounds killer through it. Your gear is good stuff.

The Tonebone preamps are a good option as they give you impedance matching options (buffer) and eq etc.

Radial also do a passive instrument switcher. The new version can be connected to power for the LED so you see which channel is active. I have the older version which I use with electrics. It has a recessed drag control which allows you to set a higher output guitar to the same level as a lower output guitar so that eg overdrive pedals etc later in the chain perform predictably with both guitars.

It would have been good to have got the model with LED indicators - I did a gig once where I hit the mute button instead of the selector and spent the whole song with no guitar sound...

If you live in Europe and have a soldering iron (and don’t need buffer, volume...)

You can make one for 15€ (With per-drilled enclosure)

I have a Morley A-B-C pedal that I use. The only problem with it is an audible "pop" that comes through the speaker (amp or PA) when switching.

I use a tuner pedal with mute button engaged when swapping inputs to mute the pop.

The pop can be tamed

I'd suggest a Korg Pitchblack+ which is an excellent tuner (I love the strobe mode) with a mute switch built into a nice A/B switch. Keep both instruments tuned and switch between them easily. Q.E.D.

I bought a used Radial AB-Y pedal that is simple and balanced. You can use is either way, which is nice. Dont even need power source if you can function w/o LED lights. Not cheap, but used wasnt too bad. Built like a tank, so not worried about used status.

I have the older version of the PZ PRE. It has 2 inputs with a selectable boost for each channel. I keep channel 1 boost off and channel 2 on. Guitars with K&K passive pickups get plugged into ch 2.

On the smaller looper board I have the Boss ABY pedal witch can be ganged with other Boss Foot switches. PXL_20210219_235056205.jpgPXL_20210219_235113568.jpg
