Default Move to Texas they said, be done with the cold!

On top of 6 inches of snow, negative 15 wind chills with 30 mile per hour winds. I might as well be back in Minnesota! Also .2 of ice before it started to snow. Pretty much going to stay this way for the next 2 days. Very little sanding or plowing on the roads, so we rely on mother nature to melt it!

Wow, 12 degrees? I know New Braunfels, but I've never seen it look like that.

I lived my whole life in Minnesota and upstate NY and I can tell you, I know cold, it is pretty miserable here today. not 20 below actual temps like Minnesota, but real winter temps. Must be a record here. It was down to 8 degrees Sunday night.

Welcome to Texas, Tom. I’m 30-odd miles south of you and the temperature here is a balmy 13 degrees... though we too have snow covering the ground. Last time we had snow this significant was January of 1985 (IIRC). I recall because my wife and I had only been married 5 months and were snowed in. She hates the cold and thus did NOT find it all that romantic. Also, a client of mine made national news by being photographed in full ski regalia in front of the Alamo. So don’t worry. This isn’t typical for the area. Be careful and stay warm.
Cheers,
Dirk

Yes there is much disturbance in the force ( power grid) today. Hope yours stays on! When it does warm up, there used to be the world's largest water park in New Braunfels. Maybe they have ice skating today?

Being from upstate NY you should realize the irony. Even Hades freezes over from time to time. Embrace your Yankeedom. Show the locals how it’s done. *shrugs*

Houston here, 16 at the moment. Supposed to get to 11 tonight. I grew up in the mountains in Virginia, so it doesn't bother me - I actually prefer it to the normal million-degrees we have here...lol

The worst part is that while I don't blame Texas at all for not having a fleet of snow plows and grit trucks, this is supposed to be the "energy capital" of the country and power is out in places all over the state (including our house). Come on. Your power grid can't even handle a *day* of cold weather?

I am *not* impressed with Texas in any way, shape or form.

We are handling it by feeding our pups molten steel...haha

I actually read that some of the power outages are because 35% of the energy supply is from wind turbines that are currently frozen and not spinning lol. The % I quoted may be off, but they are saying that is some of the issue...

I heard that as well. I find it odd that they have tons of wind turbines in Nordic countries where they have *real* cold, and those don't all freeze up after less than 24 hours of cold!

What a joke. Of course, we have the same power issues in the summer because it's too hot. The grid here is apparently *all* built by the lowest bidder...haha

9 inches of snow here in Tyler, with 7 degree temps this morning. Also expecting another 3 to 5 inches of snow on Tuesday night. Rolling power outages and now they are saying some will be up to 2 days long.

We were without power from 5:00am until Noon. House was at 58 degrees.... nippy. Can’t wait to see the power bill.... if you see me selling guitars, you will know why. Unless I am forced to burn them!

Someone in charge has a wicked sense of humor. Better get the humidifiers going too. Stay warm Tom!
