If I were gigging these days, mine would be with me, for sure.

I'm very fortunate to now own a Kostal OM and MDC, which are now my gigging instruments (along with the Lowden Baritone). There might be certain situations when I wouldn't be comfortable gigging with them (e.g. if I'm playing at and staying at a festival and I don't have somewhere safe - both in terms of security and heat protection - to keep them). But they sound awesome and make me want to be a better player, so hopefully that translates into a better experience for the audience! It's also nice to be able to show off Jason's work - though whether I'm doing it justice is another question entirely!
FWIW, I did take my much beloved Kostal MDC to play (and stay at) a festival recently. Fortunately I still have it - fully intact - to tell the tale. No regrets. It's the guitar I enjoy playing most, and I wanted my audience to enjoy it too.

I have yet to put a pickup in either my Rockbridge or my Huss & Dalton.

I do, from time to time, install a Baggs M1 in the soundhole and play them out.

But my go-to gigging guitars are both production line Guild jumbos, equipped with K&K's. I get what I need from them.

I don't gig much now (no time!), but I use this beautiful Kronbauer SMB, engelmann spruce over macassar ebony to demonstrate my gear at guitar shows etc. It's equipped with a K&K Pure Western Mini, and I use it through a K&K Pure XLR preamp into a Bose L1 Compact line PA.

Here in the UK it was very reasonably priced against standard series Martins and Taylors etc., but I feel it is superior in both tone and feel - definitely that sense of quality and refinement common in single-luthier and boutique guitars.

I've been really pleased with it and, most importantly, really enjoy playing it!

Cheers,
David

I gig with my custom Adrian Lucas Guitar a lot. The neck is so comfortable that I just decided to use it for everything. Don't really like the ideas of guitars that do very little !

Curious...this is a rather old thread, wonder why it was resurrected.

Since it is here, and I am here, my answer is that it depends on where. If it is a real gig, yes, I bring my Stehr. If it is an open mic, I bring the Rainsong.

I would never own a guitar I would not gig with. I have some really nice custom guitars and gig with them all - just not all at the same time.

I would gig with any guitar I currently own, but non of them are irreplaceable.
Perhaps if I had a vintage (pre-war) Martin, or a custom one of a kind luthier built guitar I would be more selective as to were and when I would gig with it.

So i do... Fortunately I have the "luxury problem" to choose between some real beauties in sound and look, but I think I woudnt own guitars, which I wouldnt gig with generally... ok.. Miss Maple I wouldn't take to every location, because "she" is really "one-of-a-kind" in several ways, but I was able to purchase the "Da Vinci", another beauty from Alexander Voss, which is a quite "more normal", but still sounds incredible... and Tera from Olav Loef is even a great guitar...
as said before.. "kind of a luxury problem"...

Smile Gigging tonight...

Saturday evening gig. Fun place in a log cabin roadhouse in the Laguna Mts about 50 miles east of San Diego. Plugging in for this one.
I am taking my brand new John Kinnaird custom! And last years as well. They sound SPECTACULAR!!!
About $13K worth of guitars .... hahahahaha

Life is uncertain, Use the good ones!

Cheers and play on AGF

Default taking them public

There isn't one I won't use in public when the occasion calls for it. My newest, the Hatcher, was designed to be all around, useful for all sorts of material, so it will be seen in public more than the others, especially when I am not soloing.

I didn't buy these things to have them sit around. I don't want to be the only one to enjoy them.
