This is the first time I have bought a guitar without personally playing it.
That's a big "gulp".
Congrats...you have nothing worry about!

Nice looking guitar too!

The first time is a leap of faith. I had bought a few guitars on-line or by phone before buying that first (in stock) Emerald. All of those purchases went well and the guitars were all as expected. Three Emeralds in now, and all have been great.

Congrats on this first one. Looking forward to the NGD post.

Ok, thank you! I played an HD 35 at the Martin factory and it blew me away. I have thought about it ever since, but like to have a cutaway. If an X30 is in that territory, it’d be terrific.

I appreciate yours and Reissues comments. I am still a little nervous as $3000 is a lot of cash and I am not a professional musician. I don't actually need another guitar.

Hope you love it! I thought about a stock X30, and the black one was attractively priced, but I need time to sell my Sable and a RainSong Black Ice WS. Plus the blue veneer...and I may see what they can do about matching the blue with fretboard inlays.

Anyway, we’re really all enablers, aren’t we?

The only thing you need to be concerned about is not falling out of the chair on the first E major chord.

And if you do, you can take comfort in the fact that the guitar may very well survive the fall better than you

UPDATE: There was apparently a snafu connected with my friends’ purchase of the Black X30.

He was offered, and accepted, a deal on a wood veneered (red) X20 which should be delivered in a week or so.

I couldn’t offer an opinion on that deal as I’ve never played an X20.

I have had them both and they are kind of different animals. Have no doubt he will like the X20, but if he was going for that dread/jumbo sound (which I assume was or you don't order a X30), then he won't be blown away.

I intentionally did not say disappointed, because that would signify that the X20 had a less than ideal bottom end, and that is not the case.

If he got a veneered X20 at the price of a stock X30..then he did well there

Thanks for those comments. Well said.

He came out price wise very well with the veneered X20, because of the trouble he had with the purchase, Kudo’s to Emerald on that, BTW.

I was pulling for him to wait on an X30 but he had the fever and took the X20 deal. I’m sure the X20 is a fabulous guitar but there’s just something about the X30 that defies everything I’ve ever thought about guitars.

I say that having never played an X20, and I think I need to add that qualifier.

Update: My friend’s’ X20 arrived this week and he was blown away when it arrived. It was in tune, perfectly set up and nothing short of amazing according to him.

That’s all he more interesting due to the fact that he has owned some great acoustic guitars from most of the top names. Primarily a dred player, he owns a D-28 conversion, to a 45 style, done by a luthier who’s name escapes me.

He said he played the two side by side and the X20 is as loud and projects as well as the Martin. We shared the joint disbelief at how Emerald could possibly pull that off.

I’m relieved that the X20 wasn’t a letdown after hearing my praise of the X30, and the mixup on the purchase resulting in him getting the veneered X20 instead.
