Very pretty guitar, but I just visited the Emerald site, and you can get a brand new very similarly spec’ed X30 for $200 less. I don’t know about you all, but when I buy a modern guitar that is used, I expect a hefty discount off the new product’s price.

What is crazy is that there have been a couple other Emeralds on Reverb commanding "stupid" prices that have disappeared. Whether the seller pulled it off the market due to lack of interest or whether they actually sold is a mystery.

Maybe I should drain the account and order a few Emeralds, head over to Reverb and sell for hundreds over new? Man, I think I've been in the wrong business!

Not saying the asking price isn't a bit high, but perhaps it's more of an instant gratification deal. If you order one, it might be 6 months or more (not sure what Emerald's current lead time is). Someone that sees if and knows they want an Emerald might pay a bit more to get that arrive at their door within days and not months.

All I know is I still love my X20 blue/green burst maple overlay that I've had for 3 or 4 years now. It's my main gigging guitar, is obviously impervious to temperatures and humidity, and stays in tune really well.

Happy Friday folks!!

Hi Jim; I agree that people are probably listing them with very high prices due to the lack of in-stock Emeralds. However, I was told on Monday by Emerald that the lead time for a custom X20 or X30 would be 3-4 months, so it might not be *that* long of a wait. It is making me consider Rainsong as a more immediate alternative, because I won't pay a ridiculous price for a used Emerald and probably would lose interest during the 3-4 month wait time, especially not having ever played an Emerald (or Rainsong for that matter). This one seems to be priced reasonably.

You can order an X20 with a veneer and no hard case or pickup for approx $2500. So, yeah I think they are charging for no wait time. No harm in trying I guess.

If Emerald offered me a 30 day turn in exchange for a 15% premium, I'd pay it. Lots of people would I think.

Right, it all depends on a person's desire to wait in order to save money or to have it sooner for more money.
