If you're willing to page back, I think there's a picture of that show in this thread.

Thanks! There are a couple of sites out there that have a picture of everybody crowded up on the stage. Many great memories of this club and all of the artists that played there.

Low, classic. I can't see this clip enough. As I and others have said for decades, JP could easily been a stand-up comedian if the music thing didn't pan out. Just a wonderful storyteller. I had posted a similar, slightly longer version of that same monologue elsewhere, Low, probably at least a couple of times in this very thread. It never gets old.

Thanks for sharing your mutual enthusiasm for John Prine with me and others. They don't come any finer.

I guess if you live long enough, you become a legend. That he is. That he is.

Thanks to the last three posters, all sweet and wonderful thoughts about JP and his music.

And yes, if you ever saw Steve Goodman perform live in concert, you'd never forget it as long as you live. He was THAT good. They were perfect foils for one another.

If you've never seen this wonderful clip of John and Steve doing "Souvenirs," you're in for a real treat. What a great duet.

Sorry the vid is such poor quality. It had probably been copied and recopied from the original video tape of more than 40 years ago. Enjoy!

John Prine wins Americana Awards.

Great to see fine music still being recognized in our little folk world.

Congrats to John and Brandi!

Well deserved all around. I have loved John Prine for decades and Brandi is one of my faves. Very gracious acceptance speech. Love it that Elvis Costello was honored as well. More great memories created at the Ryman!

Best,
Jayne

So glad they renovated the Ryman and are once again using it for its intended purposes. One of my dreams to attend a show there.

Bravo again to John Prine, a true American original.

Here's a short house concert he did not too long ago. Still has that same Prine wit and humor. The latest disc THE TREE OF FORGIVENESS is excellent.

Enjoy!

Always a good time to celebrate John Prine. Especially now. He's my hero.

John Prine died today, April 7, 2020, a victim of the coronavirus.

I started this thread almost exactly three years ago, and it's still going strong. I guess this thread is almost as eternal as John's songs.

He's with the angels now, but he will remain in my heart till my last breath. Thanks for changing my life, John.

I still remember hearing/buying his very first album when it came out... as a young songwriter, I was generally loathe to listen to very much of other artists' work, mostly because I didn't want to start "copying" anybody else's songs... but John Prine was SO different from what I was writing that I immediately latched on to his brilliance and humor!

There was a period where I knew and performed pretyt much every song on his first couple albums... when I get together with my sister and play, she always wants to do "Spanish Pipedream" ("Blow up your tv, throw away your paper..."), which I taught her, some 45+ years ago...

Thanks for a lifetime of great songs, wonderful stories and your incredible heart, John... you will be fondly remembered in all ways!

I have always liked this one - "New Train" from the Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings album.

Prine had the remarkable ability to be bitter and cynical in the most charming and amusing way. Thank goodness for all the GREAT gifts he bestowed on us. RIP, John.

Nobody could turn a phrase like John Prine. He could hit so deep with just a few well chosen words. He has always been right there at the top of my list along with Steve Goodman. I hate to think of the world without him in it. Bet there was a great reunion in Heaven last night with him and Steve. Will miss you John.
