Default How does Collings achieve the "Dog Hair" look?

Man that's attractive. Think it's a stain then fill. I heard of this method about 6 months ago and if I remember correctly, that's how it went. I have a piece of paduck that I should try this on. Decent size pores.

My first try would be to start with very open grain mahogany, preferably planed/scraped rather than sanded, black dye stain, then white filler - possibly even wiped on white enamel - then buffed out with steel or plastic wool. The pictures aren't high res enough for me to see any better than that -

Stain black, seal, white enamel sounds like the ticket. Gonna give it a go! I have lotsa Mahogany!
