Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing the journey with us.

Mr. Slobod is as good a guitar maker who has ever walked this planet.

And one more layup, one thin, the other thicker.

I would lean toward this iteration. I'll admit to being less of a fan of the super-bright colors you originally showed. IMO it should have a touch of pop.

Yep, we're on the same page. We don't want the purfling to look like a Christmas tree. The latest iteration is definitely my favorite.

We're getting close to the final, final. Now time for a backstrip.

I'm curious why all the progress apparently stopped after the box came together in August 2020?

It took a long time to find all the veneers for a proper style 30. Once we settle on a handful of layup and backstrip designs, we will send the veneers to Gurian to make the purfling. That’ll take a while as well. In one of the variants, we’re going to have them make a zipper purfling similar to this.

So I am trying to wrap my head around grain orientation when making these. So it looks like the strips are all glued together to make that last picture and then cut at an angle for orientation, but then in the final product are we seeing the end grain?

Turn the last pic 45 degrees CCW and cut a vertical strip off of the right side. The end grain is covered by the outside purfling strips.

That's my take anyways. Looks beautiful!

Yes, I think you are correct, that helps, thanks my engineering buddy! I think I was making it harder then it needed to be.

The purfling is made by stacking thin sheets of colored wood on top of each other. What you’re looking at when you look down on the top of the purfling is the edge grain. You’ll make a small stack of colors, cut off multiple pieces from the stack, and then sandwich them together to make a repeating pattern. The stack is cut at an angle so that the purfling stripe is diagonal.

So that is just the opposite of what Nemoman was saying and what I thought originally, now I am still not sure lol!
