The shop management and owners need to know that someone failed to do what you paid them for. Do it for the rest of us.

I'm with everyone else, you can't NOT say something to the shop. You paid money, it sounds like you're saying you were ripped off, why wouldn't you get on them? For that matter why wouldn't you mention the shop's name here? You'd potentially save other members from the same lousy treatment.
Keeping quiet when someone takes advantage of you isn't taking the high road, it's letting them roll over you.

Years back I brought a guitar into a well respected shop for a neck reset and some other work. After about 2 months I got it back and to me it seemed like they had done little more than change the strings. I debated calling them and I finally did. I told them that I brought a guitar in for a neck set, paid to have it done and it still needed a neck set. The woman I spoke to was very understanding and said they were sorry, they had a new tech, etc, etc.. and they could either refund me or I could bring it back and they'd have someone else do the work. I took the refund.
I guess what I'm saying is it won't hurt to call. |

Well, I would call them to ascertain there was no misunderstanding or mistake.
Maybe they are overwhelmed and go to the easier tasks, but they should explain it. This year I could witness many mistakes in some services I had requested. It had rarely happened before. I fear many people are reading request notes too fast and miss some points.

Any professional repair shop should give you an itemized receipt for the work done, as well as a written work order when you drop the guitar off. If you don't have anything in writing, it's your word against the shop's. I think the OP should at least call the shop to try to find out what happened. Maybe the shop will try to make it right. The OP has nothing to lose at this point.

Seems you should be complaining to the shop and not to the forum.
I sense there is something not being communicated completely and/or accurately in this affair.

This! It seems you want to avoid a confrontation, but it’s not only your money, guitar and time involved here…it’s any future customers that might run into a similar event. Yes, communicate with them for not only yourself, but also for others.

Thanks, everyone. Last week I was conducting training all week and had no time to call during shop hours. I will contact them this week.
Here is the "tail of the tape," so to speak. I took my guitar to Seven C Music in St. Petersburg, Florida. I had visited them a few times before on my trips (I usually go twice a year for events I attend). I liked the work I saw their techs do, and everyone is very friendly and seem quite competent. The shop is owned by father and sons David and Joel Hostler, master luthiers. David worked for Taylor guitars, invented their Expression System pickup system, and became their V. P. for of Customer Service, Repair and Quality Control. When I brought my guitar in, I spoke with the counter person and one of the techs. I pulled out the guitar and went over the items I wanted addressed: The dulling of the finish, the missing headstock logo (which I showed them in the envelope I had in the case), the couple of deep dings on the body, and the need for new strings. They suggested D'Addario, and I agreed. I told them that since I lived out of state, I could wait until my next trip, or they could ship it to me. We agreed on the shipping charge on top of the work. They told me the work would run $100 - $150. I told them that if I was willing to pay $82 to have the replacement headstock logo shipped to me, I wasn't going to argue the restoration cost. The total cost to me including shipping was $299.95. You know, if they'd replaced the headstock logo, I'd probably have just said, "Well, there's probably not much more they could do" and leave it alone. As it is, I really don't know what they did, as they did not include a work order or invoice in the case or shipping carton. Another issue I have about this whole thing. If they offer a refund, full or partial, I'll take it. But as far as I'm concerned, Seven C Music has lost a customer.

Complaining might be useless, but clear conversation is very much warranted. A precise list of what they did versus your expectation would be a good starting point. If they are reputable, they'll make it good. If not, all you'll waste at this point is a little time.

That right there tells me there was a disconnect between you and the shop .
$100 - $150 would basically cover a deep dive set up with new Saddle/nut if needed. Restorations can run 100s if not 1000s of dollars, depending on the condition of the guitar.
