Goodness that's asking a lot. So sorry for your loss.

I've got nothing but there are some great suggestions here.

Better do some audience and personal analysis.

If it were me..... "Across The Great Divide" comes to mind.

I agree that you should ask his wife.

When one of my two best friends was killed in a plane crash a few years ago, I played Bruce Springsteen’s “Terry’s Song” at his funeral. I still can’t play it without goose bumps and tears in my eyes.

At my cousin's funeral I did My Buddy, which I learned the weekend my dad died.

Nights are long since you went away
I think about you all through the day
My buddy, my buddy, nobody quite so true
Miss your voice, the touch of your hand
Just long to know that you understand
My buddy, my buddy, your buddy misses you.

At my brothers memorial service I did the appropriate verses of Todd Snider's Feel Like Missing You Today

I feel like missing you today
Sometimes I just get this way
Seems like everything I see
Brings back another memory
I must feel like missing you today

You're never too far from my mind
I feel like crying sometimes
It's never been so hard to do
Especially when it comes to you
You're never too far from my mind

I know someday I'll see your smiling face again
I don't know when but I know it's true
One other thing I know
No matter where we go
You love me and I love you

I feel like missing you today
I ain't lettin' nobody stand in my way
I'm gonna pull down these shades
And play some old songs

At my sister-in law's funeral, I played guitar while another brother and his wife sang Amazing Grace.

Most requested song at British funerals: "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from the Python movie. Hope I'm not offending by making this suggestion. Sorry for the loss of your friend.

I’ve done I’ll Fly Away as the recessional at a number of funerals including my mom and dad.

At my mother's funeral I sang and played a song I call "Hello my Friends". I also sing and play this song whenever it is appropriate for friends and relatives. It is sung to the tune of "Hello Again" by Neil Diamond".

I introduced the song as being based on the song "Hello Again" by Neil Diamond and said:

"Imagine this - Mom is here right now - and this is Mom's message to you"

Hello my friends, hello
I'd like to let you know
I think about you every night
And when it's late, I can hardly wait

Hello my friends, hello
Just want to let you know
I think about you every day
When I'm all alone, and you're at home
Hello

Lately it's been busy
Maybe I'm to blame
But all these words are from my heart
So while we're all here, I just need to say
etc.

I play it using C, F, G and Am chords.

If this sounds like something you could use I could email you my rendition.

Without knowing what kind of music the friend would have wanted we're just stumbling around in the dark.

There's "Old Rugged Cross" guys and there's "Send Lawyers, Guns, and Money" guys, and many others.

Need more background.

Was your friend a person of faith? Without knowing more it's a mystery.

Sorry for your loss ... great suggestions from everyone. When my best friend passed away, his wife requested TR Ritchie’s “I’m Gonna Take it With Me”
