Partial Refret Blues
So I dropped the Taylor off last week with Dagna @ Silesia Guitars for a partial refret and a full setup. She has a great reputation and I have no doubt that Tay-bug will be better than ever. I've never had professional work done on it, and I bought it in 1995; so it's definitely overdue. The first 5-6 frets are worn to the point that a partial refret makes more sense than a simple LCP.
Knowing it's gone makes me want to reach for it and play it all the time, though. I miss it. |

Understandable.... when i sent my GS7 to Taylor for some fret work, i used the Guild 12 string for everything till it came back. But when it did come back... i looked at it and checked it out... then put it back in its case... while i continued to play the 12 string for 2 more weeks! Its always nice to have a 2nd guitar.... I've got one of my Collings coming up for a refret - always a worrying process.
It is very much a first five situation and most wear was before I got it. it did a lot of hard gigging before it came to me but it's a wonderful instrument. So, the quandary - to have a partial of full!? Aye, thier's the rub!

Wow. I got the Taylor back today and I can't recommend Dagna highly enough. The partial refret is invisible. I can't tell which frets are new, but they all have perfect crowns and are polished like mirrors. I also had her make me a compensated bone saddle, and I couldn't be happier with anything. It feels, plays, and sounds better than new.
