Thirsty Hippo is probably what you need more, but watch out for dryness because the soundboard will crack.

Yup, had been monitoring the humidity in the case at a range from 48% to 58%.

Advice is take it to your luthier and have it checked. Sorry to hear it.

Those humidity points are fine. The GPCPA4 Siris has a three PC back siris/rw/siris. Is the crack on one of the seams? Are you able to get a picture of it?

Is a very small yet visible 1mm crack mark on the siris back right side of the guitar. Wasn't there few days ago. Hmm... Will it disappear by itself?? Anybody encounter the same issue?

This is my first guitar and not really sure whether is a norm. If yes, I might be over-reacting. But is a sore eye to me to see that mark there.

Assuming your hygrometer is reasonably accurate, the humidity levels you report suggest that your guitar is not in too dry an environment. The most frequent causes of cracks are excessively low levels of humidity and impacts.

It would be helpful if you could provide a photograph of the crack.

How much did you pay for your guitar? Would you accept a brand new microwave oven, car or fridge with a ding on it? This was my argument when I received my DCPA4R with fold marks on the sound board at the end blocks. I sent it to two Martin service centers and they said I should take the matter to Nazareth. I did and they sent me a new guitar, and with gold hardware for free. Martin is great with after sales service. I suggest you take it back to the place you bought it, or talk to Nazareth PA.

i always get good mileage out of them. humidipaks usually last me about 1 1/12 to 3 months. never had anything ruined by them, and i always keep them in a closed, quality hardshell case.

My current packs are going on 4 months right now... El Cajon isn't exactly a wet land either.

I use the humidipack and have had no issues so far. One set last me pretty much the entire spring and summer, but now that it's winter, my last set only last since the end of october and I replaced them this week. But I like the fact that it's a two-way humidity control system. I live in a river valley where there is a lot of humidity in the summer, but it is really dry in the winter. The planet wave system helps keep things right no matter which way the humidity shifts.

Bumping this old thread.
I had an old Planet Waves Humidipak in my guitar case. Suddenly the metal parts om my Martin HD28 went green.
It is now in a shop getting restored at a cost of over 250 dollars.
The tuners will have a permanent grain.

I, too have been using (and reusing) them for years with no problems whatsoever.

I don't know anything about chemistry or oxidation or any of that, but I do know they have kept my various guitars properly humidified in an area that is known for its lack of humidity (Las Vegas is currently at 114 F and RH of 9%)

As to the original post from 2011, I did learn that oftentimes the first batch of Humidipaks one uses will dry out and become hard because they are humidifying BOTH the guitar and it's wooden case. Apparently the case can contain as much as 5-6x the amount of wood as is found in our guitars. This is why Boveda has started selling a "super" pak (my terminology) to do the initial humidification. After that one is used up, the "normal" ones do a very nice job maintaining the proper level of humidity.

Just saying ...
