If I am reading some of these posts correctly, several of you are intending to buy replacement cases for your instruments, presumably out of pocket.
The liability for the case damage rests squarely with Planet Waves.
They should replace all cases damaged, or provide complete reimbursment for their purchase, once proof of said damage has been demonstrated to them.
Frankly, I can't imagine them disputing and claim based on the photos that have been posted here.

That's what I've done, based on Larry's video and recommendation. Works great, and very much appreciated.

I tried the humidipak system, and thought it worked great too. But, after trying Larry's system I decided to just get my money back after the last debacle. Sorry to see this latest problem, and I wonder how on earth their R&D could have missed it.

Planet Waves has indicated that it will reimburse customers for replacement cases. They are requiring that the customer buy the case (in my instance four cases) and send the paid invoice to them for reimbursement.

Presumably that is why you see forum members looking for a source of replacement cases. It seems like a little bit of an overkill to replace the case, but there doesn't seem to be any alternative, and the case is seriously devalued if you were to sell the guitar.

That's good to hear, and the right thing to do.

So is there another recall now on the new Humidipaks?

I don't think the new Humidipaks are in general distribution channels, but I could be wrong. I was under the impression that the only folks that got the new ones so far are the folks who turned in the last batch.

Default An alternative to humidipack

I started using this one http://oasishumidifiers.com/index.html after sending back my humidipacks .It seems to work well but I would guess ziplock and sponge would be good also

Humidipaks regulate humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture. The improvised sponge/ziplock bag solution can only humidify. It can't dehumidify the way Humidipaks can.

I'm actually quite impressed PW has taken the initiative to reimburse customers for their cases - that should restore a tiny bit of faith, even though two rounds of this product has failed...who knows, maybe third time lucky?

Yes, you can make an inexpensive - homeade humidifier , but what the Humidipaks do is keep the Humidity levels around 45%RH in dry and cold season. No guess work. My case is between 65% and 70% over the past few days, that would not happen with the Humidipaks ( at least in theory ) And yes, the sound is not as sweet as I hear it in this upper register.

I had no idea that they released the second version, it certainly was not in the main distribution around Philly. They must of had a beta going on.

Well, it looks like they are trying to shoot for November , so its wait and see.

Again, unlike the Humidipak the above does not regulate humidity. It only adds moisture to the air in an uncontrolled fashion. The clever, not weird, Humidipak releases or absorbs moisture as is necessary to maintain relative humidity within a specified range.

If this is tactless or uncalled for please let me know. I was just wondering if any of you were wanting to sell those cases that have been messed up. I've got a friend who has a beater that he needs a hardshell for and doesn't mind the cosmetic flaws. If anyone is interested, I would appreciate it and you can email me at [email protected] or pm me on the boards.

I think you meant "sell those cases..." not "see those cases"

Right?

I will consider that, but only after hearing from D'Addario after I receive my replacement case. If they reimburse me for a new case, they have every right in my mind to the damaged case. I could imagine they'd want to have them shipped back so they can continue tests in-house.
