Nice review. I have an X20 and X30. Both have the Graphtec Ghost Piezo bridge with individual saddles. the Intonation is freakishly incredible and the Piezo bridge is my favorite pickup. Mine also have the K&K Pure Mini and I find a LITTLE bit of the K&K goes a long way. I dial in maybe 10% of that pickup to add body and warmth. If I dial in more K&K I find that it gets woofy quite fast. I would not want an Element or K&K alone. (Just my preference)

Nice review. To me, the Emerald sounds tubby. Nice, but tubby. Could have to do with it being tuned down a half step. CF guitars without internal braces have more sustain and natural compression than most wood guitars. This can be a good thing or a bad thig depending on your preferences. I prefer the punctuation of a regular wood acoustic guitar over the compressed (sometimes tubby) sound from a non-braced carbon fibre guitar. YMMV.
Still a very nice review.

Also, if guitars can sound ‘tubby’ (again, a new word to me, but one I see you’re fond of) can they also sound ‘skinny’?

Sounding like a bathtub? I do know that the tone of my Emerald guitars is far from neutral. They have a colored resonance, meaning that certain frequencies are emphasized.
