Mr. Moustache,
I was fortunate enough to travel to the UK in the summer of 2015 and was amazed at how cold Scotland was! Granted, it is probably easier to warm up than cool off indoors but I really was startled at how cold it was. While I think I could get used to it and come to enjoy living there, I don't think you would like visiting me in Las Vegas in July. It is not uncommon for our temps to hit 115 (46.1 C) during the day (but it's a dry heat ) I hope you get to cool off soon, PJ

Usually, our hot weather comes with ridiculously high humidity. The week before last was brutal here... temps in the 90s and dewpoints in the mid 70s.
Yesterday, OTOH, was gorgeous. Temps in the 80s and dewpoints in the 40s. If only every summer day here was like that!

I will take our weather up here in the Great NW any day. 80 with a breeze tops for me. Hits 90 and we all melt, lol

I would trade these 90 plus degree summers with 60-70%+ humidity we have in Mississippi with just about anyone in a different location outside the humid southeast right now.

I just got back to Iowa from the Colorado Rockies. You won't believe how hot or intense the sun in the mountains can be at 80+ degrees. It was so dry I think I screwed my sinus up.

I grew up in New England without AC except for a window unit only in our living room. It wasn't hot the entire the summer, but there were some weeks that were brutal and we lived in that room during the day basically during those days. We only ventured out to get food and drink.
At night, I had a fan in my room and that worked most of the time, but some nights were brutal. I used to put a wet towel on my forehead and tried to not move. Now, I live in South Florida which is also brutal in the summer, but, of course, everybody has central AC, so it's not bad. However, when you have a hurricane and lose power for 1 to 2 weeks down here (happened 3 times since I've been living here), it is a different kind of brutal.

Sweltering in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Major record breakers. 108 ish, over 100 for several days and in the mid, if not upper, 100's. I can see where the society before a/c it would come to a crawl, folks would have to seek shade and water, ponds, lakes. We are truly blessed with one of the greatest inventions of our time, air conditioning, both in buildings and our vehicles

When I lived in Mississippi, a movie came out where a character from the Northeast was stationed in Mississippi. One of his lines was "It's not just hot, it's Africa hot".
On a couple of recent mornings when I left to fish at about 6 AM, my glasses and clip ons immediately fogged up upon stepping outside. |

In 1866 General Phillip Sheridan was quoted as saying, "If I owned Texas and hell I would rent out Texas and live in hell." I guess it was hot here without air conditioning.

And The Heat Goes On
Yup- still no rain. I'm watering my pathetic crops daily, sand watching more and more plants dying off. What this means for commercial agriculture I dread to think.
Fortunately for my guitars RH is about 40-50% ... but reducing. We traditionally expect a big thunder storm aftre two weeks of clear skies but ... nothing. BTW we don't have air-con in our homes - we open windows and doors instead, and summer is the time when we recoup the gas and electricity bills from winter.

Here in the city, we were still sitting at 100 degrees F at 9:00PM this evening after a high of 109 - it really takes the starch out of yer shirt for sure.

And so the big burn goes on.
I woke up this morning to hear a report about fires in Greece killing about 50 so far. In Japan 65 deaths and 22000 needing heat related treatments. Sweden has wild fires, and I understand Eastern Canada and southern California also have problems. Nanny Jane went to hr beach hut yesterday and saw so many young families with children playing in the sea, but many will have been suffering from sunburn last night and this morning.

Sweden was supposed to host the European Championships of a shooting sport in a week or two. The site is a military range and the whole thing was canceled because of the fires.
I'm at 27 Celsius and 47% humidity now, at noon. This continuous stretch of warm weather is something that I've never seen before, here.

I live in the middle of the U.S.A. and usually this time of year it is really hot and humid. This year it isn't (yet). We are looking at low 80s F and going down into the high 70s F in a couple of days. This is really odd. Our weather used to have a pattern give or take. Now days it's different and it doesn't seem to track the same.
