Well that and recording the event by chiseling on stone tablets, took a bit longer than uploading a selfie

If one thinks deeply, the root of the "look at me" behavior stems from someones initial desire to exploit human nature for the purpose of making money and lots of it.
That would include any form of social media we currently have with us. When you offer a platform for easy fame, the invitation to acquire that fame with unsafe behavior is difficult to resist. More than ever, this is our culture and the culture of our world. When the values we honor are all about "self" well, this is the result. A lot of us curmudgeons perceive the rewarding of destructive behavior to be a world turned upside down. If we are perceived as "grumpy old folks", so what. Offer us a compelling argument in favor of giving up your precious life for a You Tube video you won't even see because you died doing it. Then have your buddies tell everyone what a great person you were. I kind of already said this in an earlier post, but I felt compelled to repeat it.

While I didn't do anything to qualify me for that "High on Life" club, I have to confess that I took far more risks before I was about 25 than I have since then. I consider most of them foolish today. I'm probably the only one here like that though...
Regardless, my heart goes out to the loved ones these three left behind, and I pray that the lesson they taught doesn't fall on deaf ears. cotten |

With mentioning that risk can be abated by skill. Whether mountaineering or driving a Formula 1 car, the best have spent years acquiring the skill needed to deal with the risk. There's probably less than 50 people worldwide capable of driving in Formula 1.
"Adventure Tourists" worry me as I doubt they have invested in getting the skills but still want to try and claim the accomplishments. |
