Default Ideas about a case for a 16" archtop ?

Just got me an Eastman ar805 which comes in a really strong, heavy, bulky moulded case.

I'd really prefer a Geib style case for it ... any suggestions/ideas?

Often a jumbo case will fit an archtop, I like TKL for a good, mid-priced case. https://tkl.com/

Elderly and archtop.com both carry purpose-built cases that will properly fit archtops - jumbo and mini-jumbo cases are sometimes too deep to properly accommodate the neckset angle and/or shallower (2-3/4" to 3-1/2") side depth of a typical archtop...

Would one of these fit the bill?

Gator Cases GTSA-GTR335 TSA Series ATA Molded Semi Hollow Electric Guitar Case

BTW, congrats on the guitar! It looks lovely!

It's probably overkill unless you travel a lot, but this is a great price for a Hoffee. The listing says 15-1/2" lower bout, but the pictures with the tape measure indicate it could likely fit a 16".

Thanks, but shipping a case from the USA (non EU) would cost way too much.

I'm hoping to get hold of an Epiphone zenith 16" case.

Now there's a thought!

Search for a case for an archtop guitar, and you get archtop cases - not cases for archtops.

Thanks anyway.

I'm in a similar situation - been looking for a HSC for my Lanikai banjo-uke for the last year or so but it seems the only vendors who have one that fits are all in the UK (the spirit of George Formby is apparently still alive and well), so neither of us may have much choice...

I purchased one of Epiphone’s new cases they are making for their century archtop models. The one I have is the small case for their little archtop, but they are all fundamentally the same. They are quite well built, decent cases. I sold the little Epiphone but kept the case, as my little C5 Classic fits very nicely in it!

Andrew,
I own a 16" 1930 Gibson TGL-5, basically a factory converted tenor, hence the label nomenclature.

I have the original case, but I needed something that was not as fragile and in better shape.

I found a Guild case from the 1970-80's that was made for their 'mini' jumbo size. I would assume that would be their F-30 of the time, but I'm not certain.

It fits the Gibson like a Glove. It is an arched top & back case, so it's pretty sturdy.

Let me know if pictures would help and I can email them to you.

Regards,
Howard Emerson

Here's a used TKL that fits a Gibson L-4, despite the guitar being a copy with an L-5 tailpiece.

Perhaps they'll ship to the UK? Nothing ventured.....

Hi Howard, yes it probably would do rather nicely. for £67 ($88) but the ad says £157 shipping ($206) plus of course Excise taxes plus 20% VAT.

Thank you for looking for me, but shipping from the US has now become quite impractical, even though the shipping cost does seem very high.

So I got the Epiphone case - really good quality, but a tad too narrow , even, I've discovered, for their own Zenith Classic laminated archtops (for which it was designed) but with a little modification, it will suit my Eastman.

looking forward to getting the Eastman back from my luthier, and getting the "package" together!

I can see another comparison video coming up!
