Default Back in the Saddle

I've been down sick for the past couple weeks. I'm back in the saddle now. It's great to be back in the shop!

Here is the mostly Snakewood fretboard I'm making for Dustin's grand auditorium:

Thanks Lonzo! Snakewood makes for a great fretboard. I think this one will look great with gold EVO frets.

I started another grand auditorium, This one is Italian Spruce on curly roasted Sugar Maple:

Euro/Maple has always been on my mind...in the right hands the voice is incredible. Hope to hear sound clips of that one when it is done. Bet you're having a blast in the shop, Mark!

I am glad to be back in the shop! We'll see if we can get a sound clip together

Here is my logo chip on this one:

One of the things like like about using wood logos is it gives me the opportunity to find a small sample of wood that matches up nicely with the guitar and also represents in a small way some of the current woods I have coming through my studio. This chip is from the behemoth old growth Sugar Maple I found on my property:

Which had this burl in one of the old broken off branches:

Which I sliced up and got a large variety of grain and colors to choose just the right piece to go with this guitar:

Just one more reason I love your work, Mark. So very cool, and such a good use of the material right around you!

Mark, that’s lovely. What a rewarding use of that insanely-colored wood! Down here our blue pine is very pale by comparison.

Thanks Steve. I used to see small amounts of this color in New Jersey but there seems to be much more up here. I suppose it may be to cooler, wetter conditions here and maybe the soil is more acidic. It really is an unusual color to find in nature.

Thanks Tom! Dustin is getting the sculpted pillow headplate that I do. It is BRW with Snakewood binding and a Maple purfling line that carries around from the fretboard binding and purfling. The truss rod cover is Snakewood continuing up from the fretboard:
