Default N(old)GD..a little gem!

I live in a semi-rural area, so when I noticed a new instrument shop on a country road I had to check it out. Tiny little place with a -surprisingly- good bunch of interesting stuff. Lo and behold hanging right up in front was a little gem I've had in mind for a few years. I've been looking for the "right" vintage Les Paul Jr or a full scale Melody Maker. LPJ's have skyrocketed in price. Today I brought home an all original '59 Melody Maker in really nice condition. Neck is rock solid perfect and feels great -to me- with beautiful Brazilian fretboard and frets that were recently and quite nicely dressed - a lot of life left. Nicely figured mahogany body and all original hardware. Quiet pots and the tone really grabbed me; chimey, a little growl, or soft as desired, the tone control provides a good range. Happy to have a piece (even just a tiny piece) of musical history.

That's a very nice find! Can you make a video with it? I'd love to hear it in action!

Will try to get that done, whole house interior being painted right now. Maybe at least a sound clip through a 5-watt tube Champ...(can't promise anything 'impressive', I'm more of an acoustic player, but definitely an example of tone)

The only way to play those entry-level '50s slab-bodies...

What a cool find with plenty of mojo from the looks of it!

Very cool - I'm a big fan of simple guitars, and that is a great one! If something sounds good, you don't need extra knobs to mess it it up.

That's really cool! Two years off from a birth year guitar for me. A friend in college had one just like that.

Wow! Was it listed as a '59 or did you luck out?
