Latest T style Build: Danish Modern
Kinda a hybrid finish, the back and sides are nitrocellulose lacquer and the top is three coats of Tru-Oil, a linseed oil based gunstock finish. East Indian Rosewood top and Honduran mahogany back. Heavily flamed torrified maple neck and East Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Gold anodized pickguard and control plate.
I'd heard of folks using Tru-oil as guitar finishes but hadn't used it myself. I wanted to keep the top as close to unfinished as I could and still have a sealer that lived nicely w/ the nitrocellulose lacquer. It's a very light weight finish, clear, enhances the grain and is quick to dry. |

I've used tru-oil on an unfinished gun stock. Did it weep out of the wood on you at all during the drying/cure? I suppose we use more on gun stocks than you did. Not likely to walk around all day in the rain with your Tele!
Also. The neck looks like a semi-precious gem! My goodness what a piece of wood!

The brushed (?) pickguard looks great! Did you make it? Or where did you get it?
I was curious to find out where I could get Tru-oil. Google probably found all the gun shops within 500 km of me How much do you need to do a guitar?

TruOil comes in 8oz and 3oz (maybe larger quantities, but I didn't find anything larger than 8oz.) I just did the top and I wonder if I used any more than an oz or two. For a whole guitar, no idea but I'd start w/ two 8oz bottles. Here's one video I watched before using the product. BTW, I used much less than he does for each coat/application. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFT9kdJFkaI |

Stephen, another beautiful build! What caught my eye, and what I like, is that little dark 'triangle' on the right side of the headstock near the middle of your name. Character.
