Default Used Larrivee D-03 for $400 - Should I bite?

I'm in the market. Saw a used Larrivee D-03 on Craigslist for only $400. Seems like the deal of a life time. What questions should I be asking???

Seller claims that it has been played very little and was taken as a partial trade for a Gibson. That's really the only info I have. Thanks in advance!!

The one in my area is listed for $795 so I guess it's a deal.

If it's in good shape and you want a dread, seems like a no-brainer.

If the seller is not the original owner, he may not know much about the guitar's history, though i'd be curious what the build year was (you can always find this out later from Larrivee). Any other questions can probably be answered by you looking at and playing the guitar in person. For a D-03 in good condition, that is a great price, but don't commit until you see it up close. Hope it works out, cause that could be a real steal!

FWIW when the D03's first came out they were not much more that new ( I had one). So maybe someone is just trying to sell it for what he/she paid.

Or it's stolen....

They are very nice guitars. Solid spruce top, hog body with a center seam so well matched that it's hard to see. Ebony board, one piece hog neck.

Stolen!? That did not occur to me. Fell out of my chair on that one! Certainly possible though.

It's pretty hard to track a stolen guitar so not too much risk.
Plus when someone buys a used from another who bought used, who knows where it's been to so the history doesn't mean squat as long as it's in good condition.

The price seems too good to be true, assuming it is in reasonable good shape. If I thought it was legit I'd buy it without hesitation at $400.

It's not hard to look up the current retail price on a Larry D03 and realize that $400 is a bit low for a used one unless it has issues.

Ask if any body or neck damage, fret condition.
Sounds like a great deal I see you already have a D-01 might sound very close in tone.

Yep. My D-01 has laminate back and sides, so obviously, this would be an upgrade.

i didn't mention that it also has electronics, but don't know which electronics.

Worth having a look. I picked up a 12 year old D02 in a pristine case, in brand new condition for $200 about 4 years ago. Nice guitar that I passed on to my wife's cousin, who has really enjoyed it.

Deals are out there, but need to take a good look first.

That's a good price,but not super amazing.

I picked my Larrivee D-03R w/ on board Fishman Matrix preamp and heavy duty flight case for $400 out the door at GC about a year and a half ago.
