Oasis String Breakage?
I've been using Oasis High Tension strings for awhile and have really liked their tone, especially to the G string. However, I've noticed a pattern forming; after a few months, one of the bass strings, usually the A or D, will snap. This doesn't happen while playing; I'll just walk into the guitar room and find that the string has broken. While I don't know if this has anything to do with it, I will mention that I use either string beads or my 12-hole bridge tie-off method, so there is a steeper than normal break angle across the saddle.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a problem peculiar to Oasis strings, or possibly just to any high tension string?

I tried Oasis nylon strings on several guitars, on the recommendation of someone on a different forum. I too had a number of string break in the case (D most often). I would go to practice and when I opened the lid I'd find a broken string all curled up around the neck (they usually broke at the bridge).
It happened several times so I moved on as the sound wasn't all that had been promised. Now hearing of your trouble makes me wonder if Oasis has a QC problem? Not knocking the company on just two data points but it is curious. Dave |

Sorry to hear this. I've used Oasis strings quite a bit and never had a problem. Lpa53, "a couple of months" is a pretty long time to keep the same set of nylons on a guitar. Can't help wondering whether that has anything to do with it.

My main reason for liking Oasis sets is that they have a great D to G, wound to unwound, string sound transition. If I can find another set that does the same, and hopefully is locally available, I'll switch.

I love Oasis for their balance across the strings, clarity and feel under hand, but I have also experienced numerous "spontaneous" breaks on 1st and 4th strings after only a two to four weeks of low playing time on normal tension sets. I've stopped buying them for that reason. I can't see paying the high price for unreasonable durability. It makes me sad, they were one of my favorite strings.

I did state that I was using normal tension sets, specifically Oasis GPX carbons, full set.
I currently am restringing with D'Addario carbons, the EJ45FF. I don't like them as much. They sound more muffled and tight, like the guitar's voice is a little strangled. I have one strung up with the EJ45TT set with titanium trebles, which are ok. Right now none of my nylons need restringing, but the ones that still have Oasis are the feel and sound I like best. I'm also looking for suggestions for something else more like Oasis to try. I have a string box full of Augustine Reds, various La Bellas, some John Pearse, but don't really want to start another string thread! |

Despite the breakage issue and the limited availability, I think I will end up sticking with Oasis.

It could be the high tension, but ultimately I would imagine it is the sharpness of your bridge?

Personally, I'd look at the nut slots and saddle before blaming the strings.
I had used the Oasis sets for quite some time and never had any issues.. Now I use the Oasis trebles paired with the Savarez Cantiga bass strings on my nylon string guitars. They seem to be much more balanced for me.

I lost 1st strings on several different guitars that I replaced the strings on fairly close together, so maybe it was a bad or counterfeit batch.

Well, after experimenting with other strings, I think I'm moving back to the Oasis strings, and this despite their being rather expensive and not available locally.
The last two sets I've tried were Savarez 510AJ high tension strings, with two different types of basses types. With the first set D bass winding frayed and snapped. It probably took longer to snap than is my experience with the Oasis D string, but it snapped nevertheless. On the second set, the B string snapped during the initial tuning and this brings up something I found with both sets (and the D-Addarios I tried), and that is that the trebles take forever to to get up to pitch and then forever to settle in. This has not been my experience with the Oasis strings, which get to pitch and settle in pretty quickly. If I had to change strings even a day before a gig, there''s no way the Savarez trebles would be ready to play. So now to order the Oasis strings and see if I like them as much as I remember doing. UPTDATE: I just put them on today and, yes, the Oasiis High Tension strings are just fantastic. I guess I'll just hae to change them more often and also keep some spare single bass strings around.
