Default Bespoke Build : Circa OM-28 Adi/German Flame Maple : Fine Luthiers

John has started a bespoke build for us. This OM was commissioned by one of our clients who originally went for a Cocobolo OM in the Style 28.
After we got him the Maple Circa praise then he actually fell in love with the Maple Circa Sound! He wanted John’s Vintage voicing so we recommended Red Spruce for the top! John’s comment about Adi/Maple combo and FormerFoodie’s review on his new maple OM made him decide faster than I thought.

So the final spec we lock down is

Spec

Body - OM
Top - Red Spruce
B/S - German Flame Maple
Rosette - Style 28 (5-9-5)
Backstrip - Style 28 (Zigzag)
End Wedge - Ivoroid + Mitered Side Purfling
Purfling - Style 28 (T:Herring bone + B:BW)
Binding - Ivoroid
Neck - German Flame Maple + Non-Adjustable Graphite Rod (with Plek)
Inlays - Torch inlay (head) + 28 Style (Fretboard)
Headstock front veneer - Ebony (Jet Black)
Fretboard - Ebony bound with Ivoroid
Bridge - Ebony
Frets - Evo Gold

The German Flame Maple set for this build!

Speaking of this maple, It’s really fantastic stuff John hand selected in Germany 7 or 8 years ago.

Now the back is joined with beautiful zigzag back strip. The Black&White theme works with maple all the time!

More photos will come later!

Cheers,

Alan

Alan, I can't wait to see the flame of the maple under finish! I'm humbled to learn that my guitar was an inspiration for your client. I can confidently say that if this guitar is a fraction of the guitar that mine is, your client will be VERY, VERY happy.

I know John uses a lot of German spruce with his maple builds, but I was absolutely thrilled with the adi / maple pairing. My OM has a delightful growl right out of the gate.

I'm looking forward to seeing this build unfold. Thanks for sharing!

John has been super busy with many things~ So this build has been delayed a bit, but he will start working on the body construction shortly!
John sent me pix of the current status at least HaHa~

The 28 style rosette placed on this fantastic Red Spruce top!

German Flame Maple Backplate looks so tight.

And John anticipated acquiring this superb Flame Maple blank, and already carved into the neck shape. Jaw Dropping!

Can’t wait to see these constructed as one piece!

Cheers

Alan

Beautiful maple. I am looking for it's twin - any ideas where I might look? And that neck is quite spectacular

Top&Back Voicing done!

Rim construction! John uses Spanish Cedar for the top side of the kerfing and Light weight Mahogany for the back side of the kerfing.

Closing the box!

Neck glued up! Hand-cut pale red abalone Torch inlay.

Looking forward to the next stage!

Cheers

Alan

Hi, Folks
It has been a while since the last post.
Unfortunately, we don't have more build photos, and the guitar shipped to us in spring 2020.

The client lives far away from Seoul, so we had to deliver the guitar shortly after the arrival. The guitar wasn’t in perfect condition when we recorded, but we were amazed by the tone immediately!

Here are the videos we made.

Enjoy~

We got more Circa builds to share~

Cheers

Alan
