Nice PNW images! @StreetGlider, looks like these were taken at Kerry Park in Queen Anne? Had my first date with my wife there.

@tinnitus the ship really makes that composition! Really shows the character of the Columbia Gorge…beautiful, natural, but still industrial and quickly changing from rainforest to desert.

On short final to landing at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

I flew many missions into DG when it was being built up back in the early 70's under high level secrecy.

This is where our B-52's and B-1's flew out of during Desert Storm and the Afghan conflict. Located about halfway between Australia and India.

You couldn't enter those beautiful waters because it was infested with stonefish. Step on one of those and you're done.

Heavy shark and stingray population too!

In '87 or so, USS Constellation (aircraft carrier) conducted "flanker" ops (anchored flight ops) at Diego Garcia. The breeze was strong and steady enough that we had the preferred 25-30kt over the flight deck without having to plow around at sea and "make wind." This went day and night for a week, and I went ashore often. It's a unique perspective to observe carrier ops (war planes launching and recovering on a ship) from less than half a mile away while drinking in a bar - one of a half dozen clubs or more on the atoll.

Cool! At the time we were flying missions to build up DG in the early 70’s there was one small Quonset hut for a club and some tents for us to sleep in. Thought I was back in the Boy Scouts!

As you noted, those trade winds were constant and made the heat and humidity bearable. Great experiences back then!

I think I'm getting better at the action photos. Better focus and better color, plus better editing.

A tad fresh this morning... as evidenced by my glass-panel railing!

And you're using the new Anti-Gravity Filter (AGF).

Trademark it.

And that is my friend, the owner of the trails, getting more air than I would be! He knows them well and is a really strong rider.

Cliff House, San Francisco tonight, shot from the Sutro Bath ruins.

Great shots Dirk, both the action and the landscape pictures are excellent.
