Is it easy enough to fit myself? The current one has a piece of putty around it under the saddle where the cable comes through... Is this purely to support and hold it in place?

Thanks

I took a look at Shadow's website and it looks like some kind of flexible flattened wire (not a stiff bar like a Matrix or coax like an Element). Your original one probably went bad where it is bent going into the body of the guitar (that is the typical failure point for a flexible UST). The putty might have been used to keep that bend from flexing. According to the installation manual there is no mention of putty, but they do want you to tie down the pickup cable near where it enters the guitar. You can find the manual at:

It should be a simple enough DIY job.

Thanks for taking the time to try and help, it's much appreciated
Mechanical damage to a UST is likely more about bad luck and handling of the guitar, not how often it was plugged into an amp. That the guitar's importer has a link to buy replacement USTs is an indicator that this is not a super unusual event...

Must be bad luck then as the guitar has spent much of the time in its case and still looks brand new... Pretty frustrating.

Thanks for your help again... And your patience!

I had a UST go bad on an Ibanez guitar. Did not develop a hum, but had lost sensitivity towards the far end. Same as your guitar, well cared for and no particularly good reason it should fail.
