Well the journey is nearing the end. Joe White now has the guitar and is putting the frosting on the cake. Here's a few pics:

Thumbs up

Joel has definitely a very distinctive style of working the wood - beautiful!

What percentage of commercial high end luthiers send out their guitars for finishing?

Incredible looking guitar. I LOVE it!

A lot, I think, in particular of the smaller shops. And Joe White as an example does such an incredible good job that for many luthiers it actually makes sense to outsource it because it is just better. Some luthiers, like Bruce Sexauer, believe that the finish is such an important part of the end product that they would never outsource it, but for many it is just too much and too difficult and they have too little experience in finishing.

I know that Tom Doerr is all set up to do his own finishing and he does a great job. I think it's just a matter of personal preference for each builder. Some are comfortable with the art of finishing, others leave the finishing to finishing artists.

I've joined the party late, but WOW what a build! That is a very deep guitar! How deep is it? I bet it is going to sound great!!

I have a Breedlove with sitka/myrtlewood and it really sounds balanced and clear. It is not as loud as my adi/rosewood OOO or even my sitka/sapele OM but sounds good just the same, especially finger style. The grain on my guitar is incredible.

I seriously can't wait to hear what it sounds like, so don't forget to share when finally have it in your hands.

Thank you all once again for your kind comments on my incoming Stehr. I believe the depth is 4 3/4" Joel sent me these pics today. He's getting ready to string it up and I'll be taking delivery late next week. So here's a couple more for your viewing pleasure:

I'm hanging in there. But I really can't wait to see and hear this beauty in person. I can tell from the Pics that the true beauty of the guitar isn't coming through all the way. This one has to be seen in person. I'll try and post some pics can clips when she arrives late next week. Thank you again everyone for sharing this exciting experience with me!!
