And I could not figure out how to show just "Active"
At the zoom level I took the screen shot (to show the entire US) the icons are so big relatively that you can't get an accurate count if you zoom in it gets better

I am guessing your map is more accurate for current active.
Thanks Kev,

Whatever the case, it's been a massive blow to communities in the west, and it seems to be getting worse every year. Scary.

No "seems" about it

In the US the average length for fire season has increase by a month or more in three decades. With roughly twice as many large fires

That’s a lot of air pollution.

The weather forecast is calling for 9-10" of snow on Sunday and Monday in Colorado.

What a gift that would be- hope it happens.

Yep and it is been particularly noticeable here since mid summer , for weeks on end we could not see, or barely see mountains that are only 5-10 miles away and usually very visible. And it's basically all from fires hundreds of miles away ranging from central California to Washington state.

Even on a good day after a lot of wind you can still see a dark grey/red brown band of smoke hanging over the mountains

And then many days you can't see them at all, they are there just above the tree line

Apparently the East Troublesome Fire has now burned 300-400 structures.

I hope it's the beginning of the end of what's been a terrible wildfire season for western US/Canada. We can certainly relate to it down here after the horror season we had last spring/summer.

It's so ironic we have now had way above average rainfalls the last 3-4 months & the place is so green & lush (in some parts anyway, further west from here some areas are still officially in drought but still doing much better than 12 months ago & in many areas close by the bush/forests burnt in the fires were devastated to the point it will take years/decades to fully recover).

What is of concern to me now is that because of all the recent sudden growth there will be a heightened risk of grassfires as summer sets in. Last summer most of the danger was in the forests as there was hardly any grass around to burn.

The concern in California is mudslides, and it's a given. The only question is if there are more homes in the path. Take out the vegetation and steep hillsides will fail with a healthy rain, which is inevitable.

Going to be an interesting few years.

Great new the "Kids" texted this morning reporting 4 inches of snow on the ground in FT Collins. Hopefully this means they have finally turned the corner on the fires

We got another 2 inches last night so we have about 4 on the ground also

Looks like a pretty sure thing the northern CO fires are going to see significant snow.

We're a bit farther south, here's our forecast

Temp is 14F which is a worry to those who evacuated without enough time to winterize their houses. Broken pipes may be a side effect of the fires to unburned structures.
Good point especially if the power is out.

I just took this in north Ft Collins at 2:20 in the afternoon. For reference the Cameron Peak fire is due west from us and the Troublesome fire is just a little southwest. Without this weather there was a real possibility of them joining each other. It's still snowing and supposed to keep it up all night. This is what the fire fighters have been waiting for and I sure hope this is enough precipitation to end this ordeal.
