Here's another vote for Hercules stands. I have two of the hanging kind that hold 3 guitars each and no problems in the 3 or 4 years that I've owned them. Whatever you do don't get those cheap folding stands with plastic on them. Also, don't leave your headstock tuner on the guitar all the time as the plastic on it will eat away at the finish.

This

why would you have stands that could damage your guitar and spend time and effort making them "safe"

I wrap a black tube sock around the junction where the three legs meet the shaft. Just in case I'm being careless with my guitar... I don't want to bang it into that metal junction.

Yup..........

That being said, I've had many, many guitars on "unwrapped" stands off and on since 1964 and never once had one damaged by the stand.

Hercules stands use a different padding material than...what brands? I've never heard of this issue.

Default Stand Cover?

I had one that was old, and had what looked to be surgical rubber tubing. Didn't want to just toss it, but also was scared to use it, so I made the covers here with a piece of cotton Terry cloth and a hot glue gun.

Cost nothing, took 10 minutes.

Agreed...why would one? I've never owned a guitar stand that didn't have foam / material covering all contact points well. currently diggin On Stage Stands for my 2..no problems at all!

How do you wrap your guitar stand?

Easier to do if it's folded up But:

If your Right Handed, you grasp it with your left hand.
Put it up in front of your face.
Start body movements in time with a heavy drum beat.

String together a series of sentences with words that rhyme.
The rhyme can be either the first word in the sentence, at the same relative position mid sentence, or the last word in the sentence, or combinations thereof. Also occasionally over emphasizing the rhymed word can add dramatic effet.

All the while with your right hand make flailing hand sign gestures, with various fingers extended at different times. That should do it.

Slip each pocket end over the fork ends of the stand or wall hanger so the rest of the strip lays against the curve of the fork.
Made about 25 of these.
No worries no matter what kind of guitar I put on the hanger. And it looks alot neater than microfiber clothes hanging behind the headstocks like I used to have. I also use them on floor stands.
Thank You for posting how to make cotton covers for your guitar wall hangers that look good. I am going to do that. I like some of the other posters have never had a problem with the stands or wall hangers damaging my nitro finished guitars. That is until they almost ruined my beautiful Gibson ES335. I caught it just in time and was able to buff out the damage. Evidently this is a problem I am finding that is real common with Gibson nitro. My other nitro guitars have absolutely no problem hanging from the neck like the Gibson did. Collings CJ35, 59 Martin 0017, 76 Guild X500, Eastman Parlor, Anyway Thank You

What do you do with the children after you've stolen their socks?

I use Konig & Meyer A frame stands, some covered in cork and some in some sort of hard rubber. Been using them for many years - no issues.

I think this matter might be worse for new instruments with finishes that haven't sufficiently hardened. I had a new H&D with a finish so soft that you could push it off with fingertips.
