Default Scharpach Vienna APEX

I don't think I can say that I have seen a more beautiful archtop than the Vienna APEX:

Yes, they're beautiful. According to Sharpach's reputation, they are also supposed to sound great! Has any one heard one?

There was a recent article, maybe in Just Jazz Guitar magazine, interviewing Theo Scharpach. He's doing amazing things, somewhere between evolutionary and revolutionary. Arguably at the forefront of the field and not just archtops.

And apparently it doesn't need a guitar stand.

From Scharpach's website:

For the Vienna Archtop we use exclusively old tops that are bought from the widow of A. Lang. This old stock I must have bought already in 1990. Lang was a well-known German guitarmaker living in Garmisch Partenkirchen, Germany and died in 1975. Although some of the woods may have minor visual flaws, it is acoustically far-out superior to any new wood due to the extreme old age. The roughly pre-cut tops do sound already like a bell. I estimate that the top wood has been stored to dry in the workshop of Lang for more the 40 years.

My guess, based on provenance, is that these are European spruce tops.

I'm curious what visual cues lead you to believe Adi.

This guy completely redefines the term "craftsmanship" - had the "classical archtop" school of playing that flourished between the World Wars taken hold in the "serious" music world, this would be the quintessential concert instrument...
