Default NGD backyard, camping, beach, etc...

I have never liked or even understood the term beater.
Heck, all of my guitars are probably beaters to most folks on here.
Anyway I needed something that sounded good (ok) to take anywhere and not worry about.
Stopped in a little mom and pop and saw this Savannah SGO-16.
It sounded so good I had to do a double take to see that it was all laminate.
I had a spare 1.75 tusk nut that slid right in place of the 1 11/16".
Yes, part of this thread is for the naysayers who claim you can't do that!
Anyway for $129 it sounds as good or better than those entry Yammies people keep raving about.

That's the exact definition.

Great find, enjoy it!

Great find! Some of the newer beginner guitars play and sound pretty good and make good "beaters"

Regardless of how many good and/or expensive guitars someone has, everyone needs a “no worries” guitar for such occasions.

Nothing wrong with that. Use the right tool for the intended mission. If you look in my tool box, you will find more than a dozen Philips screwdrivers. Each has its own purpose - some are 2" long and others are 18" long, have different bit sizes, ratcheting, etc.

Even my "beaters" get treated with all due respect, although they might accumulate a few more dings in their working environment.

Congrats, as long as you enjoy it, that’s all that matters.
Keep on playing.

That looks like a great buy

There's nothing wrong with a cheap, all laminate guitar. All any guitar needs is to play well and have a nice tone that you as a player can work with - nothing more. And you can find those traits in many a cheap guitar today.

I have an all hog laminate totally bargain basement parlour guitar arriving in a couple of days and as long as the neck set and general build are OK I'm sure I'll be able to set it up to get it playing nicely (I'm expecting to fit a new nut and saddle and probably do some fret work). In terms of tone - well there are so many things you can do to move the tone around on an instrument (strings, picks, playing style etc) that I'm hopeful I'll get it sounding sweet too.
