Default I’ve got the “Local Luthier Left Town Blues”

Feels like breaking up with a long term girlfriend. Except she’s a bearded middle aged man who is a magician with a guitar. How do I even start over? He knows all my babies almost better than I do. Always putting up with my crazy requests, giving each guitar proper love and attention before or after a long stretch on the road, talking shop with a dummy who doesn’t possess half the knowledge or skill as he does... this one hurts y’all.

Two is one, one is none.

Now that is the Australian humor I missed when an Australian co-worker decided to move back home.

I worry about the same thing. Don't know how we got along without him and don't know how we would if he left? Sorry for your loss...

That’s a very serious loss. If my guy retires I might have to hang up the guitar for good. Fret dressing will be necessary down the road, and the other techs in my area are all over the map for level of ability - it doesn’t inspire confidence.

It sure is better than not having any in your neck of the woods ever...

I am fortunate in that I discovered a second great tech while my main guy (who has done my electric guitar work for almost 40 years) was on vacation. The main guy now gets my electric work and because the new guy had done such great work tweaking one of my acoustics, he gets my acoustic work.

In my neck of the woods, there are a number of techs who have great reviews from the local players. Consequently, if one or both of my techs leave, there are plenty of highly regarded techs to replace them. But while the two techs I use are still around, there's no need to look elsewhere.

Now’s a good time to learn how to take care of your own guitars.
