1948 Gibson LG-2 - now $XXXX, shipped - SOLD!
I received this little beauty this week in a trade and, frankly, it made me quickly realize I am NOT a vintage guitar guy. It sounds wonderful, but the thought of issues & repairs is keeping me up at night. I don’t have a luthier I trust to help me set it up and I just want to move on. It’s a shame because the tone is truly fantastic... so, bummer for me, but hopefully a deal for a vintage fan.
I took a few pics on my own today, but also included the link from the original ad on Reverb: 1948 Gibson LG-2 Tobacco burst w/ new LR Baggs M1 Pick-up included https://applink.reverb.com/item/1116...ck-up-included **Please note - although the original ad notes there are no cracks, I see several (see attached pics). The two on the upper soundhole stop at the rosette; and there appear to be several more below the pick guard (as highlighted) Additionally, the action is high for me - this model has a truss-rod, but I have not attempted to adjust. Finally, I was told the build date was validated by a vintage guitar shop prior to the last seller’s purchase, but I have not been able to independently verify it. (I can’t locate the serial number) The above is substantially more disclosure than the norm - or at least more than I received upon purchase. Perhaps I am being very picky, particularly for a 70 year old instrument, but at least I’ll be able to sleep at night.. It is also worth noting that aside from the surface cracks and obvious finish issues, the rest of the guitar is in much better shape than I’ve seen in similar models. Hopefully someone here well versed in vintage instruments can give it the care it needs ****** Asking $XXXX, shipped Happy to send more detailed pics or answer any questions - email preferred (LTashie - at - gmail dot com)

Good for you man on the description. There is a lot to be said about doing right and sleeping well. I see the lines by the sound hole, but those arent truly cracks, unless they go beyond the rosette. This is a good looking old Gibson! GLWTS!

Just wanted to add that it looks like the bridge is a replacement. And if it really is a '48, then the pickguard is also a replacement because Gibson didn't go to the larger pickguard until mid-late 50s.

Unsure on the bridge, but the pickguard is definitely a replacement - the previous owner had it changed to match Chris Stapleton’s (yes, really)

Update and price drop - $2800 net
Quick update - I took it in to my local shop and the bridge is a replacement. They said the neck is remarkably straight for never having had a reset. Action needs to be lowered but there is a ton of room in the saddle. The pickguard crack has been repaired. So everything is original except the bridge and pickguard and no open cracks. We all thought the back and sides were refinished given how great the condition is, but upon further investigation do not believe so - lots of nice finish crazing that gives this 70 year old character!
I’ve located a Collings that has me itching to move on this. Price drop to $2800 net - or make me an offer! This little gem has that vintage tone for days!

Bump - price drop
Bumping for a big price drop. I spoke with another luthier about it today and while it'll need a little TLC, for $XXX+ repairs, it's a steal compared to anything else out there. It sounds great, I just don't have an interest in doing the work. Also...I just bought a new Collings which broke my wife's stern one in one out rule. So make an offer - I'm motivated

It has a 1-11/16" nut...changed from 1-3/4" in 1946 I believe?

I have a 48 LG-2, really well played in like this one. Mine sounds amazing. My tech wants it bad, keeps asking about it. Great couch guitar, small body, short scale, easy to play and has that vintage Gibson tone.

I couldn’t agree more! Every time I strum an open chord on it I harbor second thoughts... but until the wife has second thoughts on the one in one out policy, someone has a chance to get a great deal!

Can you read the FON on the neck block?
Also, I don't suppose that the previous owner had the presence of mind to save the original pickguard?

sometimes you can take a digital picture of the neckblock and the FON will show up enough to read it. You might need to take several snaps to get it to show though.
I certainly hope the previous owner that replaced the pickguard didn't do the pick scratches around the 'new' pickguard on purpose to 'relic' it!
