What about the standard 00-28?

I've played one and it was really nice.

If we could expand into the GC/000 size, as Corndog did then Taylor Academy has a great sound, better than most in their line. I think its becasue it has different bracing than the rest. AND it has an armrest, wow. But it still is not a 00 as the OP wants.
Id like to see what else may be suggested. Takamine has what they call the New Yourker but the scale is wrong as is the price. Its a narrow market.

Seemingly the reading comprehension is shockingly poor in this thread. Everyone read the OP's first sentence, carefully.

And to mercy, I did not expand the scope to include GC/000 guitars. The X series guitar I cited is a 00.

I'm expecting a post from Roseanne Roseannadanna next!

That must be a fairly recent addition to their lineup? I have a 2009, 00-28VS. Great guitar but a 12 fret with 1 7/8" nut. Features that I prefer.

Yeah, probably within the last five years. I almost bought one a few times as a companion to my 00-18.

The 00-28 was reintroduced at the NAMM show in 2017. It has been a regular item in the Standard Series since.

The 00 Martins would certainly be a wonderful choice. I, too, will never give up my 00-28. I had a G00 for a couple of weeks, but returned it. It's tone was very "honky" and brash. Not to my taste. Finding a new guitar with your specs that is not made in China is going be tough. Good luck.

apologies to corndog. 00 doesnt seem to mean much in the guitar world so when I saw in the description GC I assumed it was a larger guitar ie around 15" rather than around 14". So I am still unsure what size the 00-x2e is but no doubt corndog is correct.

Let the nay sayers who hate on X guitars chime in.
There was a recent post about a comparison done by Alamo guitar of a 000-X1 and a 000-42. The cheaper guitar definitely held its own. I'll check out the 00-x2e.

Rudy4, that may be my first retirement build!

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions everyone.

Another thought, but a long shot, would be a Pono 00 14-fret. They had a 1-3/4" nut, short scale and used would easily fit in your price range. Pono guitars have had good reviews on the forum.

Here's a chart put together by Maury showing Martin's body sizes

Thats a nice chart, Ive owned a Martin shaped custom off a vintage 00, I currently own a vintage shaped Gibson custom. Ive owned Dreads and an MJ plus a bunch of 000's so I know Martin sizes. But different builders use the 00 for other sized than Martin's, I wish they wouldnt. What is standard to my knowledge is that a GC size is an approximately 15" LB which the ad says.
See this which says that a GC is a 000 and a 00 is called auditorium.
https://gallagherguitar.com/body-sizes/. Im not arguing, Im just reporting where I got confused.
