Not to be the dark cloud, but I am remembering posts, over the past few years, with unfortunate stories of guitars finding their way (with nefarious help) out of dorm rooms. You don't say if she will be living on campus but if so it's worth considering/discussing whether she should have a beater until she has a place where she can keep valuables secure. I'm sure she would feel terrible if something you gave her went astray.

Just a thought.

I would look at the Eastman line of guitars. They have some OM shape guitars at a very fair price and I've seen a few listed here. The E10M and E20M list at about $725. I'd think you might find a used one at close to your budget.

I will second what sigma wrote about theft from college dorms.

That said Sam Ash just sent out an email notice of a sale on Martin guitars. Little ones starting at $399

In college, dorm room, hauling it around campus, church services, (beach trip, ski trip, friends/acquaintances picking it up to show their chops, bringing it home for the holidays, etc.)
I'd be looking for a guitar with a solid top and laminated sides and back. It would give her versatility and freedom that she won't get if she has to protect the instrument.

I'm sure there are many out there, but I had good luck with a Seagull for 40 years, and they make all kinds of sizes now.

If you want to go vintage this could be a great option. It sounds like it’s been overhauled and will likely go quick if I don’t pick it up myself!

Good advice about checking your local craigslist. An exceptional quality bargain in small guitars that are not mini or travel are Alvarez models labeled as parlor but are really double-0 12 fret guitars. Just pick any spruce top versions that begin with the letter A or M (solid top). You might even find one with a pickup in your price range. The mahogany topped versions are almost as good and easier to find with a pickup.

Default WTB: Guitar For Petite Daughter To Lead Worship With

TBH a trip to GC might be fruitful. They tend to have guitars of the size that might suit her. And she can test out the onboard electronics. And with Xmas approaching you may get a good deal.

Thank you all for the great suggestions and input. I had just about set my mind on a guitar, and then this happened. I walked out of my hotel while leading worship in Shreveport Sunday morning and slipped. When I slipped, my Martin D16 slipped and fell. Even though it only fell about 2', It must have hit just right. The crack runs the entire bottom of the guitar, and was gapping about 1/4" before I put the tape on. So for now, anything new is on hold while I adjust to this issue....
