For those who haven't noticed yet, two new sections have been added to our Masterlist.

First, a list of recommended plugins can be found in post #2. Please don't interpret this as meaning these are the only good plugins out there. There are many good plugins not on the list but the list is a place where you can start looking and familiarize yourself with features for plugins in a given category. Also, there are many free plugins on the list. While there are many poor quality plugins that are given away for free, the ones listed are generally regarded as quite good despite being free. Don't be afraid to try them out. Also, the prices in parenthesis are the full retail prices. The big sales usually happen during the period from Black Friday through New Year's holiday period and during June-July when summer sales run. If you wait for the sales, you can almost always find significant discounts. Some of those on the list have been discounted more than 75% during those sales, so don't let the full retail prices scare you too badly.

Second, a list of specialty plugins recommended by AGF users can be found in post #4 and continued in post #9. Included for each of these is the description from the manufacturer of the plugins function. For some of us, these plugins serve very important functions in our process and workflow.

I've added a table of contents to the top of the first post because this reference is now spread over five posts due to the per-post character limits.

I've added a new section of videos on Mastering. It can be found in Post #11. There are videos showing just the basics as well as a very in depth mastering series produced by iZotope.

I had trouble falling asleep last night so I updated all the pricing on the software and gear to reflect 2022 prices.

Yeah, I had a LOT of trouble sleeping.

If this resource has helped you in some specific way, please leave a comment describing how. Perhaps it will spawn new ideas to make the list even more useful.

Thanks for the depth of resources, and double yes thanks to everyone that contributes to this topic. I'll post questions on a separate thread.

Izotope has begun releasing videos for Series 4 of their excellent "Are You Listening" series. It looks like the focus is switching from mastering to mixing. The first three videos can be found in post #11 in the section titled "Mixing." Additional videos will be added when they are released.

Most of the new contributions from the recent "Gear Masterlist info ask" thread have been added.

Some pieces were not available for sale anywhere; therefore a current used price range could not be ascertained. I did not include those pieces in the list. I need clarification on one piece and I will PM the person for that.

The 10K character post limit became an issue again today. The full compilation had spanned across five posts in the thread. I've expanded that to seven so that I can avoid the 10K limit for the foreseeable future. This was necessary because whenever I come up against that limit, I have to shift text from post to post. It's a time-consuming task and I thought it made sense to do a full reorganization and create a good amount of space on each post. The table of contents has been updated to reflect the changes.

Does anyone think it would be helpful to add a section on monitors?

A listing of podcasts recommended by members has been added to the Masterlist. It can be found at the bottom of Post #16.

Not a how-to podcast, but Damon Krukowski's "Ways of Hearing" (https://www.radiotopia.fm/showcase/ways-of-hearing) really helps to clarify many of the issues surrounding digital vs analog recording.

Hey Jim: I was just about to post a new thread asking for ideas&info that might help me migrate from an old “physical” workstation (Boss BR-1600CD 16-track recorder) to a virtual DAW such as Logic Pro. In 2002 a younger version of me glanced at the Boss manual for maybe 15 minutes and began “recording” almost immediately, getting results I was quite satisfied with. I’d done analog recording in the 70/80’s so knew recording basics. In the last 6-8 years I’ve made a few unsuccessful attempts to switch to Logic Pro but eventually get frustrated with really slow progress and just go back to the BR-1600. I’m looking forward to seeing if this thread and its links may help -and motivate- me to get over this hump once and for all...something I really want to do. Thank you for putting it together and keeping it updated!
