Default Thoughts on running a Pro8 and CP8 in Tandem

Are there pitfalls in running a wide dispersion tower with a point source
speaker? I 'heard' you could have phase cancelling issues---is that true?

When I daisy chain the Pro8 line out to the CP8 input, I get a very hot
signal and must turn down the Pro8 volume so I can turn up the CP8 volume to get them to somewhat match. Will
that negate any overall spl output...i.e. 1 vs 2 speaker total spl?
Is using the Left/Right channels from my mixer a better option?
Comments and guidance are welcomed...thanks.

Sorry if this isn't helpful -- but I run an EV30M > QSC K8.2 all the time and use the K8.2 as a floor monitor.

Good luck!

Mike;

What are you using the QSC for? If it's a remote speaker situation, then phase shouldn't be an issue... are you planning on using it as a monitor? In that case, I imagine that you'll hear any phase issues, should they present themselves.

Does the CP-8 have any sort of pad for the input strength? (I assume the CP-8 is a powered speaker.) If so, mess with that to get your levels to match better.

Is the Bose not like our Model II systems, with regards to the excellent dispersion? That would be about the only reason I can think of to have a monitor... if the Pro8 has similar dispersion characteristics as our Model II units, then use that to your advantage - if space is limited on stage, you can always have the Pro8 on the floor off to the side; remember, so long as you are in the swath of dispersion, you should hear the unit as well as the audience does.

I've gone so far as to have my Model II 15' away from me, off the stage and set up facing the room, but from the side... and it worked perfectly! Having a long enough cable to run from the mixer to the Pro8 is all you need... with a line level signal, you shouldn't have issues with frequency loss, even over a longer run of the cabling...

In any case, if you can give us more about the "why" of the situation, you will get more specific assistance...

All the L1 Pros have 180 deg. dispersion just like our L1M2s.

I don't know if the OP prefers a monitor, but many users will push their Bose units out front when they need to crank the volume very high. Even with these splendid sticks it can be too punishing to have them behind you. Depends, including user preference.

I run the CP8 or K8.2 as an Aux speaker from my Pro32/Sub2. Surprisingly enough that little $500 speaker adds some crystal clean high end that I can't get even after EQing the $3,000+ Bose! They make a great combination!

QSC speakers have tweeters. Bose don’t. It is a design choice from Bose because high frequency acoustic waves are very directional and would compromise the 180° claim I guess

I run a line out of an S1-Pro into an L1-Compact often when I need 2 mic inputs and don't wanna mess with a mixer. It works great and gives it a bigger stage sound.

Sometimes, I'll run a line out of the L1-Compact into a Carvin AG100D for that big 12" speaker sound.

Different strokes, eh....

Thanks for all the comments. I have a regular gig in a noisy bar where I
am firing longways down an 80' by 27' room. Seats are beside my right
and all the way back with a walled bar that protrudes maybe 7' middle of the
left side. That puts my space in the leftish corner.

The Pro8 has been handling the gig ok, and I was fighting a squeal. Last
month, I set up with the Pro8 behind my left shoulder as suggested by
jseth in other posts and had no problems at reasonable levels. I angle it
to catch the folks to my direct right which I presume is losing some coverage in the back. I just
picked up a CP8 and thought it may give me better coverage in the back
firing down the room. If that adds some crystal clean highs as mentioned
by wweiss, that will be great.

Yes, jseth, the Pro8 disperses just like our L1m2 with less output. I guess I
am looking at a scalable L1m2 where the Pro8 dispersion covers the front of
the room and the CP8 covers the back. For other gigs, I can just bring the
Pro8, and add the CP8 if necessary. The Pro8 is my monitor back behind me
rather than having a dedicated monitor.

Of course, I could just use my L1m2 or even substitute my K8.2 for my CP8,
but is heavy! but sounds fine and I have used my single K8.2 in this room.

Enough rambling, I guess I am just looking for different ways to skin the cat.
