Default "New" Rainsong V-WS1100NS

To follow the format of K20C's post, I just received, also from RP, a used Rainsong V-WS1100NS that was advertised on the forum Classifieds. And it is everything Randy said it would be. And, importantly, it's everything I was hoping for in a CF guitar. The ergonomics are great. Its a 2020 model I expect, (by the serial number). I did notice a little edge sharpness on the thumb wrap-around I do pretty often. But not enough to affect my playing. Maybe I'll take some small grit sandpaper to the edge in a couple spots. But there's nothing now that would stop me from playing everything I play.

In the next few days I'll plug in the K&K and decide if I want to stick with that or swap out something different.

But the guitar is lovely and EVERYTHING I've searched for in a CF guitar. It's not the perfect sounding acoustic guitar. My woodies need not worry. But for quick fun and gigging in inclement conditions, I expect to work with this baby for many years to come.

"Perfect !"

Congrats on your new guitar! I hope you enjoy it as much I am enjoying mine.

So far everything is hunky dory. I put a new strap on it. and I plugged it into my nice Genzler amp at home and it sounds great plugged in with the K&K. No zing I can tell. And I also ran it thru my ToneDeq and I love that effected sound. I may take it out to an open mic this evening, and that will be a live acid test. But this is definitely a keeper.

The fretboard edge is a little sharp for thumb-overs. I will likely round the edge on some frets eventually. And I also use acrylic paint to make the fretboard edge dots bigger. (1/8" diameter). I do that on all my guitars so I can see the fret markers in stark stage lighting. But those are tweaks for another day.

The thing is very light.

Here's an update:

I am enjoying the RainSong. Here's what it looked like when I got it.

I've installed a different pickup. Skysonic Pro-1 with a soundhole mag and a SBT.

And I've changed the pickguard from a boring tear drop to an L00 shaped pickguard.

And I've eased the edge of the fingerboard with an exacto knife so I can do a thumb wrap-around wherever I need it. I'm not thrilled with the 20" fingerboard radius. I'd much prefer 16" like just about every other acoustic guitar, but I can work with the flatter fingerboard.

AND . . . , I'm looking at adding a vinyl sheet over the top. I've actually ordered one of these.

We'll see how that works out when it arrives.

The RainSong has a lot more sustain than I'm used to in my woody acoustics. So, I'm guessing a vinyl stick-on might dampen the guitar a little, but I'm figuring that is probably OK.

The stick-ons don't have to be permanent if I don't like it. I just thought the basic unit is pretty boring looking.

I'll let you know what I think when it all happens. And I'll make a little video maybe. This could be a groovy way to upgrade the appearance of a flat black CF guitar, if that's what is keeping someone from jumping ship. There are many simple and/or complicated designs one can choose from.

Marshall, it's a great guitar, but I've missed something somewhere and you're kidding us, correct?

Well, that's one way to avoid a $750+ charge for an exotic-wood-veneer top! Enjoy and please show us some photos. You may be starting a whole new trend in that a player can change the look of their guitar on a whim from Bubinga, Ebony, and whatever other wood types this applique is available in.

I'll be interested to see how the trimming around the neck and bridge go. It seems to me that will be the trickiest part of the process and if not done very well could compromise the overall look.

Here's a funny video where someone makes a wood guitar look like carbon fiber

Here's the main video I saw first. This is what I will follow. I'm only doing the top.

It reminds me of my days wrapping my RC planes (body and wings) with monocoat. There is a learning curve using this type of material so I'd plan on goofing up a few times. Good luck
